Goodbye my sweet baby hamster! I will forever remember you and all of our wonderful memories.
Calypso mysteriously contracted bouts of diarrhea on Saturday night, and she slowly withered away despite my best efforts. She became too weak to drink or eat even with my careful syringe feedings. I am assuming that she was still too underweight from her previous "illness" that she had around Thanksgiving, so this was too much for her. After taking her to the vet immediately on Monday morning (they were closed on Sunday), the vet informed us that her heart was beginning to beat sporatically, and she would not make it. Calypso was almost in a coma-like state, and the vet said that she was suffering through much pain. I had told myself previously that I would never want her to suffer, so I chose to have to vet aid her on her way over the rainbow bridge. She is wrapped up with her favorite sock, dog biscuit, and toothbrush that I used to brush her fur. I buried her yesterday under one of our trees, and I am putting a beautiful sandstone as her grave marker.
It is just so hard to fully realize that she's gone. It was quite unexpected, as she was getting so much better and acting like normal! I'll sometimes catch myself glancing up, thinking that I hear her.
I love you Calypso!
