Thread or what?

I was gonna hang a homemade hammock and I was wondering if I could use a thread? Just kinda worried that if she chews on it she might accidentally swallow it. If not, what can I use besides chain which I don't have?

Twine made from Sisal I think is Ok for them to chew on.

Yes sisal string is supposed to be safe to chew. I decided against hammocks because of the chewing risk and got a sputnik (it's called something else in the US). You could also make a kind of swing out of a bendy bridge and sisal string, a bit like this one, but it would need to hang quite low in case he toppled off. I worry about chains too in case they get a foot or toe caught when jumping off something and end up hanging by a broken leg.

Some people use hammocks ok - but if a hamster starts to chew it, it needs to be removed. There is no safe material for chewing really.

In the Uk there is also this grass hammock that is quite safe - not sure if there's an equivalent in the Us but someone made one out of a chill n chew grass mat.

I guess you could make a grass hammock! It would need to bit tightly woven - maybe made out of dried hay or something?

Another safe attachment type of string is paper string. Either way you'd need to keep an eye on chewing or the hammock/swing could fall down.

I think you can also make hammocks/swings from egg boxes tied up with sisal string. And there's Erin's hamster's video on 10 toys to make with toilet rolls that has a hammock I think.
