Problems with play time out the cage.

I've been having my Syrian out on the bed for runs lately but she keeps hiding and she's not happy I've been thinking about getting a play pen but I can't find them anywhere.

Does anybody know where to find one that would be a suitable size for my hamster?

I brought a playpen a while ago but I can't recommend them because all my hammies climbed out of it in about 2 minutes.



I'm sure your hammie is happy. Mine usually have a run about on me or the sofa's and then they get a nice treat.

I think handling and quality time spent running on you is more fun than being stuck in a pen. Not much different from being in a cage really. Ours like the bed if you make an obstacle course with pillows, tubes and things then make a wall with the duvet all round and of course stay on there with them to supervise. Mind you they are always intent on finding out what is on the other side of the duvet!!!!!! (and Bailey likes to lift her tail and instigate a frantic scrabble to rip the sheets off - piddle pants!!!!!)

They are often available on eBay. I would place them on some newspaper or an easily cleaned surface tough to capture and pee and poops :oops: Most newspapers are printed with soya ink now so it should be okay to use, but keep an eye on your little one and see how she reacts. I use the bath for the Roborovski as harder for them to get out from. Syrians need constant supervision wherever or whatever you have them in out of their normal enclosure. Maybe try setting up a large underbed storage tub maybe as a play box? You get some long shallow ones quite reasonably priced in homeware shops.

Or you could get a hamster ball which would probably be cheaper and Violet would have a bigger area to run about in! :D
