Mäuse- und Hamsterheim BORNEO "L": Amazon.de: Haustier (http://www.amazon.de/dp/B00H4Z3NCG/ref=pe_386171_37038021_TE_3p_M3T1_dp_1)

99cmx54x56cm Depth of base 16cm
Bar spacing 8mm
Door size 39x24cm
This is an expensive cage & at the moment only seems to be available in Germany, I bought mine from Amazon, it's a blank canvas cage with no shelves which is the way I prefer it but it is also available from ebay again Germany, & as far as I can tell that one comes with shelves but at a higher price.
If you're looking for a large cage with really big doors (front & top) this cage is excellent in this respect.
The bars are sturdy, gaps are even, slightly larger at the corners but not by a lot, there is a slight bend to the roof door (not as large as it looks in the first photo! that wasn't completely closed) but it easily closes really tight with bull dog clips if necessary as an extra precaution.
The base isn't so good as the bars unfortunately, it's a bit flimsy (compared to the Borneo XL which is really strong) & mine did arrive cracked & chipped at the corners although still useable.
The base also has a hook section front & back which can make getting the top off a bit of a struggle, it comes with cage clips so I really don't know why someone thought it needed this rather annoying feature!
I have had problems with the order of the cage but I have to say the suppliers have been very quick to respond & act when I emailed them, no quibbling!
Overall I do like this cage a lot as my main priorities were size, good doors & bar spacing .
I think it would be suitable for any species of hamster, it's not as high as the Mamble but still plenty high enough to accommodate an energetic Chinese & would probably be safer, it was also a lot easier to set up than the Mamble & the doors make accessing any area inside so much easier there's no comparison!

Photos of the cage set up for Flynt, apologies for the photo quantity rather than quality but I don't have the space to step back far enough for a decent shot!

Wonderful cypher! You need a selfie-stick to get a distance shot!

Looks fantastic cypher, although this is just the type of cage I would want a full shelf into to break up the tall height. I used a similar cage size when I had mice and even then I done a DIY job on it! Such a shame these cages nearly always arrive with a broken base though eh? x

Thanks guys :)

RH the thing I like about "blank canvas" cages is the fact that you can set them up anyway you want to suit a particular ham, I usually find the shelves that come with cages limit what I can do far too much. If I was to put a ham like Mickle in there I would definitely need to use shelves & or hammocks but then she's such a bar climber I probably wouldn't use it for a hybrid like her at all, hopefully Flynt will be with me for a long time yet but I can easily see myself getting another Chinese one day in which case I would probably set it up much as I have my Mamble with lots of ledges & hammocks.
Flynt doesn't really climb at all but I will be keeping a close eye on him & make any adjustments needed as we go along.
Really the options are endless!
Fingers crossed my new base will arrive undamaged.....

Ooh you've got it all set up! It looks amazing! You are clever with your set ups. It looks like a really nice cage, especially the bar section. I'd be worried about the height without big shelves too, but you just explained that because you know your hamster. It looks so cosy and fun for Flynt. I hope the new base is fine. It does seem strange that the base on the 100cm cage isn't as strong as the base for the 120cm. Maybe you got a duff base and the next one will be better. Can't wait to see more pics.

Cypher, once again you've left me speechless at Flynt's new cage and set up, fantastic!
I love the polka dot thing, what is it and where did you get it?

It looks like a Fuzzbutts snooze cube - is it? Cypher - don't suppose if you get chance, you could actually measure the space between the bars. Sometimes things that say 8mm are actually nearer 7mm. I know there are the odd gaps but they can be cable tied or something. Also - although the base is a bit of a fiddle, you probably won't need to take if off the base very often with those big doors, or even at all.

Thanks both, yes that is a fuzzbutts snoozecube, I just love Fuzzbutts :)

Serendipity I meant to say thank you in my OP, if not for your relentless searching & research I would never have found this cage & I do love it! :)
I'd say the bar spacing could be closer to 7mm apart from the gaps at the corners which are easy enough to pull tighter with cable ties if need be, your right about not needing to take the top off with those doors, I don't do full cleans that often & any spot cleaning or rearranging is really easy without taking the top off at all.

ETA I just did some more measuring & there is a gap where the top is fixed to the sides which is actually closer to 1cm & I don't think you could really do anything to change that.

Ooh I wouldn't mind a snooze cube for myself lol! If only they made adult ones!

I used to buy small Snooze cubes for my mice and they adored them. :) x

Piebald he's generally only out & about when it's too dark for vids so I think my chances are slim!
It looks as though he had a really good explore everywhere last night though & he was behaving normally this morning so I think he's happy with things!

Oh you've set it up and it looks amazing, but then I just knew it would :)
I love the orange and green theme Flynt has going on there, very nice :)
And I love the little wooden bridge at the back, going over a ledge too, that's another great idea :) I'm just curious, call me nosey LOL but why does he have lollysticks on the outside of his bars?
It looks like a great cage, the roof door looks like it's the same one as on the Alexander and the Barney but having that big front door is such a good addition, I need those big front doors so I'm very jealous LOL, seriously though, Flynt must be loving his new home, well done on another suburb setup Cypher :)

Thanks Willow :)
I really want those big front doors for Zephyr now too lol! I so wish I'd found this cage before I got the Mamble, problems with the base aside (which really aren't that big a deal) it really is a great cage & I'm just liking it more & more!
I just use the lolly sticks to make little areas a bit darker & more private for them! His new bigger cage extends past the wall he's up against a bit more now & I didn't want him feeling too exposed, timid boy that he is! :)
The bendy bridge at the back turned out to be a bit bigger & chunkier than I expected but they are great, I want more of those too now lol!

Yes where did you get that light coloured bridge at the back that goes over the degus shelf please?! Shame about the gap round the top - a lot of them have that - I suppose that bit could be meshed. You just reminded me, I was going to start a thread on how do you film a hamster overnight - just off to do it! I bet Flynt loves his new cage.

I got the shelf on ebay Cage Flexible Shelf Ledge Chinchilla Chipmunk Ferret Gerbil Guinea Pig Rat | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cage-Flexible-Shelf-Ledge-Chinchilla-Chipmunk-Ferret-Gerbil-Guinea-Pig-Rat-/181468916168)
I got a couple of the small textured shelves as well & they are all really nice, delivery is slow but otherwise I was really pleased.

It looks really nice! Could be handy for connecting shelves that are on different levels too.

Wow! Amazing cage Cypher! I did not know this cage existed! I love it because of the large front door access! You spoiled your hammy to the fullest as always! :)
And I need to get my paws on that snooze cube! Lucky Flynt! xx
