I think some of the glues used with plywood can be toxic for hams so maybe not a good idea.
Could you do it with really thick card or even a few layers glued with non toxic glue?

If the wooden disks are unfinished and are not pine, cider, or any real exotic wood it should be safe. However I would not trust any plywood that has glues. Depending where you live you can purchase wooden safe disks from Michael's, Hobby Town, or what I would recommend go to a local wood shop and ask for a wood turner or a carpenter to help you. Or you can go to a High School wood shop! Although sometimes these cost more Its Better to keep your hammy safe.
