I lost my lovely Amelia on the 1st of January, I've been too upset to talk about it but I'd like to make her a memorial post.
She was my fist Syrian and a beautiful princess. The day I got her I went with the intention of getting a ham from the adoption centre in P@H but there were no hams up for adoption so I had a little look in the other cages and Amelia was there looking adorable, she won my heart and I had to have her. The shop assistant went to pick her out for me and she hissed and screamed and bit, I knew she was just scared, poor little thing but she looked pretty fierce!
She took a while to settle in and become tame but once she did she was a little princess constantly demanding treats or attention :) . Such a big character in such a small creature. She was the only pet that moved into my first house with me and my OH and we loved her dearly, she was our princess.
She had 2 special bin cages made for her because she was a most determined bar chewer and her cage took up quite a bit of space in our living room but we were happy as long as she was happy.
Sadly she had a stroke several weeks a go and we honestly thought we would lose her, we were devastated, but she was amazing and she managed to recover all her movement and get back to eating solid food after a week of just baby food. After that she still had baby food to try and boost her weight. We didn't know what we could expect for her as she had been so poorly but she seemed to bounce back very well, still playing and eating and wanting to come out.
The stroke had aged her and she looked old and wobbly but she was still bright eyed and perky. And she was still our princess.
We came down on New Years Day to find she had passed away peacefully in her sleep. We were heart broken. We got a nice planter and little evergreen tree and buried her. I've ordered a little engraved memorial star to hang on her tree and next year we will decorate the tree with Christmas lights in her memory. I was so pleased she made Christmas after her stroke and losing her was a big shock, she seemed to be doing well, she must have just been too tired. She was 2 years old.
Here are a couple of my favourite pictures.
