So I watch A LOT of youtube small pet toys / wooden chew haul videos, and I've seen people ordering AMAZINGLY ADORABLE handmade items from small home businesses, and I've seen items used to make those toys at Micheal's craft store... the animals chewing them seem to have no health issues because of it, but I just want to know for sure, what glue or paint these items have on them. I and very crafty and LOVE doing artwork and building things.... so I want to build my pet and my future pets things like these. Anyone know the answers ? I've asked the owners of these businesses, but I never get a reply.
I'm not trying to start my own business and start any kind of competition here, I just want to be able to make safe items at home for my own pets.

Here's an image of some of my FAVORITE stuff I've EVER seen from Playtime Little Critter Creations, and I've seen all these things pretty much at Micheal's craft store, even the christmas trees and wooden pots used for those icecream chews , they just weren't listed on the website.

Kiln dried pine should be perfectly safe for hamsters as the way it is processed means a lot of the oils are removed, as for the paint and glue a lot of people I have seen use non toxic hot glue and either non toxic children's paint or a mix of food colouring and water (not as strong a colour but safe) hope this helps. :)

I've read that hot glue isn't good, because it doesn't dissolve in water and can get lodged in the digestive tract... the children's paint still makes me nervous, but I'll see who else answers :D Thanks for your reply!

Elmer's Glue is safe, (non toxic) and paints by crayola- both are commonly used by kids, and are non toxic.

Instead of paint, I know there is a product called Vitacritter. It's a line of critter-safe dyes developed for birds but I know it's been used on chinchilla toys and they're heavy chewers!

Scroll down this page to find it and another product for colouring wood:

Thanks! I thought elmer's glue would be safe :D I've built him a fantastic playground from cardboard and popsicle sticks, but I need to build a playpen he can't escape next. He's SUPER active, he runs most of the DAY ( he's and odd one that way, ha ha) it's 3:10 pm and he's STILL running. I don't know where to get this "plastikote". I've tried searching for it many times online.
