My hamster poops a lot

I know all they do is eat & poop but what is the correct amount of food to feed them so that they have adequate but not too much???


p.s. if i don't give him plenty of food will he eat his own poop??

You should give him about two desert spoonsful every 2nd day. This make sure they try a bit of everything and not just their favourite bits. A hamster will not overeat by nature and will store away his own food.
Hamster always eat a certain amount of their own poo. They have a special digestive system and at a special signal from the bowel a hammy will bend over and pass a soft brown poo and eat it. This is passed through the gut a second time when all the extra vitamins and goodness is removed and absorbed into the body. The hard black poops are eliminated and discarded. This is perfectly normal and in fact essential to your hamsters health.
