You may enter any hammy Jammy regardless of where it came from. If it is entered in the main show you will need to enter by calling the show secretary to enter before the closing date. he would go in class 5, shorthaired patterned if he is shorthaired that is. The black should be jet black and the band approx one third of the body, even and not broken though these are hard to find. In the main show he will be marked on colour, type etc as for the show standard. He will also be marked on size, eyes and ears, fur. You will need to hire a regulation show pen and arrive in time to bench him and then leave him all day whilst judging is done.
If this is your first show and you say he has a lovely temperament I would suggest you enter him in pets. This class can be entered on the day and is usually judged around 1pm so you do not need to be there all day. I beleive all Midland shows have a pet class so it will be on. You may like to call the show sec to confirm. In pets, hammies are judged on their condition and tameness. You can take them in their own cage or in a safe pet carrier. You can then have a look at all the show hamsters and decide if you would like to give it a go. There will be people around you can talk to and ask their opinion on your ham's prospects. I am sure you will enjoy it.
