Treat arrived with her sister Trick, they were being rehomed and we wanted more girls for the group we planned to have. The two girls were almost identical at first - both brown but Trick was slightly darker than Treat. The biggest difference was in character, Trick was more confident and Treat was more cautious. This is one of the pictures I got shortly after we got the girls and it really shows their personalities - Trick out exploring and Treat hiding in the house until she was more sure it was safe.

She came out soon enough...

After their quarantine the girls were introduced to the other two pairs of mice we owned (one picked up the same day as them, the others a few days earlier). The introduction went fairly smoothly...

The girls got a nice big cage and Treat enjoyed playing in there, but eventually we decided it'd benefit them to meet more mice and they had another introduction...

Through all of this Trick and Treat stayed really close, they got along well with the other mice but of all the bonds in the group we do believe theirs was closest. Trick and Treat made it through a nasty bout of subacute pneumonia that hit the group in November and I took this photo of Treat shortly before Christmas

Unfortunately in January old age struck Trick, she was treated for arthritus and passed in her sleep shortly afterwards. Treat took the loss very badly and we really worried we were going to lose her too if we couldn't cheer her up somehow, but after a while worrying I hit on the answer and we added a huge cage extension for the girls to share. I really hoped it'd distract Treat and luckily for me it worked, Treat had aged a bit after the loss of her sister but she rallied around and returned to being her usual happy self - just looking a bit older than she had before.

In time Treat did start to look older, seem older and show that yes, she was an older mouse. Altogether Treat stayed with us and her cagemates for nine and a bit weeks after the loss of her sister, before falling asleep in her nest and just not waking up again. I'm sure Treat will have been happy when she passed - shes back with Trick now, just as she should be.

Goodbye Treat

Although I know that they are together, it is so sad when any of the furries here on HC pass away. Trick and Treat were beautiful mousies and I am so sorry you've lost them. Krill, you work so hard to make all your furries happy. {Hugs} for you and Treat, you run and play with Trick now. Play well :-(

That was a lovely memorial. I've never had pet mice but I've looked forward to reading every update you've posted about your group. I'm sorry you've lost Treat but know that you gave her the best life that any mouse could have wished for x
