I'm kind of proud of this and so far Timmy seems to think it's interesting :)

I cut a piece of double-thickness cardboard then put a narrow piece of wood across the middle and folded both ends up. This way when turned over it would have a small "landing" on top. To make it hold its shape I used another piece of cardboard glued inside.

I picked up a bunch of different sizes of unfinished wooden candle cups (you can get them from craft stores) and glued them on one side. Timmy can (hopefully) climb them to reach the top and I can hide treats in them to give him incentive to search and make it like a puzzle.

The opposite side of the A-frame has popsicle sticks glued horizontally to give traction. I might have made the angle a little too steep but I can easily make another. This is my first try!

Thanks everyone! I've got a couple of large tubes (4"+ diameter) from the carpet store (I can get more, all different sizes) that I've got wild and crazy plans for too. Stay tuned! :D

If you're in N. America places like Michaels (and other craft stores) that sell wooden shapes will probably have them. You can also buy them online and through ebay. Just do a search for "candle cups" and you should be able to find them. Wooden craft items will often say what they're made of, I find it's usually birch.

What a great idea! :D That does look really fun for the hammies, I think I will try to make one sometimes. Can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeves. :)

Thank-you :) I've got to come up with some other fun stuff. I've been thinking about things but haven't actually sat down with the scissors and glue to make them a reality!

Great idea for a foraging toy. I'm getting a Syrian soon and plan to just feed her from foraging toys rather than a bowl (unless she 's having something messy to eat. Definitely planning a trip to hobbycraft now :)

Delightful and very creative! Some of the things HC folk come up with, like this toy, are better than the stuff we buy in stores. Made with love, that's for sure. Good job! :-D
