Building our first bin cage is truly a family project in our house! :) Hubby cut out the holes that I had already marked out with our (his) new Dremel, which worked pretty well. No cracks at all; the edges are just a little uneven. After some sanding down, the edges are now smooth. The mesh/hardware cloth was a little tricky to work with, but I managed to get the lid/cover mesh piece cut and attached with only a few scratches on my hands. We found that attaching the mesh to the lid with the zip ties was the easiest part so far, and we're pleased with the way the finished lid looks (thanks to our Hello Kitty Duck tape). Hopefully the rest of the project turns out just as pretty!

Thank you, everyone! The mesh is attached (very snugly/tightly) with quite a few pink zip ties. We used a Dremel tool to cut out the openings and drill the holes for the ties. :)
