This Is a thread for my little hybrid prince Fenris!

The two first pics Ive taken of my little guy ❤

I bought Fenris the 5th of august 2013. In the store he was verry eager to come out of his cage, he even fell in his waterbowl to get to me so how could I resist? When I picked him out of the cage he was all wet on his little bum poor little mite. But luckily I had made him a cosy traveling carrier with lots of toiletpaper and some sunflower seeds. We got in a taxi right away so he was not to get sick ^_^

He was very friendly right from the start and has a wonderful personality. He is not skittish, and verry curious. He must be the most brave hamster I have ever met, he climed on my hand the verry first day! He is also a clever little lad as he started using his potty right away and he is so fun to watch making his little tunnels in the substrate. I beleve the coat color and pattern is called Pearl O:)

Our dog has reacted amazing to him, we have never had a hamster with him, but we had rats when I got him and he has been verry friendly and careful, when we got rat babies he was a true hero washing them and making sure they where alright if they made a squeek so I truly belive this will be a fun and happy time for my whole little family. My hubby is also verry chuffed about us getting little Fenris ❤

He's really adorable and you are going to enjoy him so much, as I can see you are already. It's always very exciting to adopt a new hamster or small animal. What's even better is when they are tame and gentle (even though fussier hams can also be great pets). I'm glad to read he has taken to you so quickly and please post lots of photos! Congrats on your new little guy, it sounds like you're really happy with him :) . Sounds like taming him will be an easy job, I've actually found that my new hybrid is proving easier to tame than my Syrians. I take mine out of her cage for taming as some hybrids can be cage territorial and think you're an intruder! Well done on your new arrival anyways, he's just so sweet! :D

Hehe im a wee bit proud of him, he was in his taming box earlier and he was really brave and walked over my hand several times and even sat there a bit :D He is so hyper also! Running around exploring everything and he mastered the wheel during playtime also ^_^

This is the box I use for taming :) He has his wheel to run in if he feels stressed and need to get out some excess energy, some substrate with familiar smell and some sunflowerseeds ^_^ The idea is that it should be boring in there so he can explore ME! x) lol

Sorry I havent been so active the past days, Ive been having so much fun making squishies and being a new hammie momy xD I have been spending alot of time with little Fenris , he is so confident! He now just walkes straight in to my hand from the cage, he is not scared at all and I am so happy I picked him :D
We have been sharing Brocoli and Ive been having him out alot, he really enjoys to run about with us xD

He is starting to get really comfy here, he walkes right out on my hand for some out time on the couch. Today he got to say hi to our dog Heike and he was not scared at all, he just sniffed him and tried to climb on his head then he gave Heike a testnibble on the snout so Heike is keeping his distance now :P LOL

So as some of you know I bought some new items for Fenris, as you can see the log houses got put to use instantly. so I will buy the Large model aswell, figured it could stand in the center of the cage with those two smaller loghouses on each side, lol if you understand what I'm getting at xD

The taming of Fenris is going really well, tho he has begun to nibble at us quite a bit, but only in the cage so I will "cup-train" him x) He is really fun to have outside of the cage tho, a really active boy with loads of curiosity, so he is always running around :p

He is so cute! What a precious little face.

GiGi can get a little nippy inside her cage (bin) too. She doesn't so much bite but if I go to stroke her inside the bin, she jolts around very quickly to check it out. But anywhere outside the cage, she's totally cool. So I usually lift her out with a toilet paper tube. She hops right in!

Fenris is one lucky ham. It seems to be a perfect match for the whole family. I love all of his photos and the one of him in the blanket is just stunning. Like GG said, his face is just gorgeous. The video shows just how tame he really is...and in such a short time. It's good to know about dwarfs being "cage aggressive"...hmmm, Toffee bit me today, silly me, I must do the same as you with the cup. He really he a beautiful little ham. :-D

I havent been online for a while, been happening some tragic events here in our houshold, Anyways, here are a new pic of Fenris :D

He is now completely tame, he handles just amazingly well so calm and very confident, and I even got a few chrips yesterday when I came to take him out for playtime :D

So its been a little while since i did a update on my little hybrid prince so here ya have it :P

Fenris is the best hamster I have ever owned! He is so cute and he now loves to come out of his cage and play with us x) He is totally relaxed now around us and I will say he is completely tame, hes been that for a while tho xD
I just love to hear the little chirps he now sometimes makes when I give him a treat or come to take him out, I never imagined getting a vocal hammie when I found out about the happy/exited chirping.

Ive bought him some new items for his cage, some fiddle stics and a bendy bridge to mount under the hatch so he dont have to climb on the bars to get out xD Lol he is so small that to reach the bars he has to stand on his house and really reach for it to get a hold of the bottom bar and pull himself up to the hatch, he usually just waits until I put my hand in but I figured it would be fun for him to get a bridge he can go on to get to the door , anyways I degress, I bought him some gnawing stuff and 50L of carefresh also :D

I have been using carefresh for him because he really enjoys it and I dont find it to be that dusty really, I have seen posts on this and will keep checking each bag really good before using, but so far I havent gotten any that have been dusty at all, I guess I am lucky ^_^

I am so happy that he was such a tame little guy from the start, I really feel that fate had a role to play in my picking of him, as I first was supposed to get another hamster but then he started to climb on his tank and even put his bum in the waterdish to get my atention so I just had to pick him xD

So I am so sorry guys, I have been so buisy with our economics lately and been using my free time to conect some apliances I bought, who knew I had to use days on a dishwasher and havent gotten it to work yet xD LOL we also have gotten alot of snow so I am going to go in hibernation I think Cx The snow and cold really makes me super sluggish so havent really got any leftover energy to wtite much, I do miss you guys tho so I will pop my head in once in a while still ^_^

Anyways I degress....

Got some new items for Fenris, will take some pics of his cage today and post for you :D He now actually can reach his door, and dont have to use his tiny paws to pull himself up to it :P He is doing really well, and is even starting to relax when out. I am worrying about diabetes tho so I have bought some litmuspaper test strips and will be using that once a month I think to see if his urine holds the right PH. Do anyone know what the right PH for a healthy hybrid should be ? I must reseach that some I think ;)

Anyhow, that was my to cents for today, I hope to get some more piccies for you today, I want to show you the most boring hamster habitat ever and maybe get some tips on how I could make it better for him, I have a serious lack of imagination atm :P

He has a chewtoy in his sandbath which he burrows under the sand, he also has several chewtoys in diferent shapes and color around the cage ^_^

so the cage is not something super special, it is a 50x80cm cage so could always be bigger, I havent bought him any levels yet, but I think I might have to cause I feel that his cage is a wee bit small... As you probably also can see I dont have so good a imagination so his cage is boring, but I belive it contains the basic necesities for him to have a good life C:

Fenris is looking as cute as ever! His cage is great, not too cramped but still entertaining :) One suggestion, you could move the flying saucer in the bottom right corner and add some sort of tube/seesaw near where the wheel is now. I'm only saying this because my hybrid LOVES tubes!! Btw, where did you get that log type toy next to the bendy bridge? It looks great :D

Thank you! I think it looks kinda bare compared to some amazing cages on here tho... I have loads of tubes I can give him, dunno why I did not think of that before :D
I bought the log house at a norwegian site, they have a large one also, he lives these houses so might buy the big one as he has two of the small ones :D

It's a nice size and really has what he needs. Any thing bigger is always a great thing, but he's certainly not being deprived. Since he's a singleton ham, levels can only add to his enjoyment. He's a cutie, Fenris is. :-D

Hello All!!!

I am sortof back :P hehe, just a little update on how our little Fenris is doing:

He has a huge cage now, the Ikea Detolf Hack :D And we both LOVE IT!!!
I could never have imagined that the cage was so hard to put together, but in a couple of hours and a unknown number of cursewords we got it!! And I could not bee happier!! The cage is an absolute monster! twice the size of his old cage :D It is a joy to clean aswell!


Fenris is starting to become old tho, his eyesight is no longer good and he nibbles alot more than when i got him, he is also not using his wheel so much and only takes a few laps before he goes to bed again... It is sad, but I know all good things have to end...

Hello Axeria. :-D Fenris looks wonderful! I love that shot where he's standing up with his back to the camera. What a stocky little fellow he's become! His detolf is just great. I'm sure he loves all that space. :-D

Thank you! I am really pleased with him :) The shot where a total accident, cause he decided to go on topp of his Knuff-house just when i pressed the photo button :P I am glad he did tho, you clearly see that he is eating well still even tho he is getting abit old :)

Hello all, long time no see... Been super buisy with my new hobby: aquatics! I have a male betta fish named Trevor in my care now aswell as Fenris and Heike.

I have to tell you something serious tho:

I am so sad! My darling Fenris has gotten a hard lump on his left side! he is starting to get old so we where expecting him to go downhill pretty soon but still it came as a complete shock to me! The vet said there is nothing we can do, he is to old to operate on and would likely not wake from the anestesia. He said he dont seem to be in pain but it is a indication on that he is getting closer to the end. And that we should consider putting him to sleep after the weekend. I could come in whenever I feel ready anyday next week :'(

After keeping hamsters and other rodents for 15 years in june I am getting sick of this emotional roller coaster I go through every 2-3 years. So Fenris wil be my last one for a while unless I see a syrian I just can not pass on from breeders I know. The Detolf wil go back to being a display case and the Kallax shelfing under will become my fish area.

I am completely devostated! Dont want to loose that beautiful little dirty snowball :'(
