I have room now for a decent-ish sized cage, but want to try and make my own out of a bookcase, short one as it'll be going on top of a chest of drawers. The drawers are 70X40cm EXACTLY! Love the look of the 2 level bookshelf cages but can't figure out for the life of me how you create a door? Understand vents etc, but how do you secure glass or perspex and be able to open it again?
I'm probably being very blonde here but its been eating me and I'd love to give it a go. Thinking of getting another dwarf when I get back from Egypt, so end of July. So it gives me time to prepare if I start building now :) xxx

what about building a wooden frame for the perspex and then attach that to the shelf using hinges?

That would make sense lol, thanks :D
Could you route groves and have sliding Perspex panels to avoid hinges all together?
I built mine entirely from Perspex, but made the sides high enough that I wouldn't need a lid, which kept things nice and simple! Just imagine a large fish tank : )

With mine, I bought some plastic runners from ebay, and got some glass cut to the right size to make sliding doors, and it was easy to do. I googled 'building a vivarium' and got some ideas from the sites that came up.
