I was wondering where in the UK I can buy the materials to make a wooden platform?

I have been looking on the B&Q and Homebase websites but all their boards etc seem to be MDF and chipboard.

I only want to do something simple, looking for a square/rectangular piece of wood and dowels or other pieces of wood for legs. :)

A lot of people have been 'hacking' Ikea stuff into platforms for their hamsters. The Knuff (http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/50187340/) magazine files are good. All you have to do is lie it on its side and attach a ladder/steps up to it. Some people also remove one of the big sides so it is open to the bedding underneath.

Also the BEKVÄM (http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40070185/) spice rack just has to be turned upside down to become a shelf. However it is a bit narrow.

You can leave either of these as plain wood or plasticote them so they are easier to clean :)

Or you could try a local bargain shop for a wooden chopping board.
