Following on from a previous thread http://www.hamstercentral.com/community/hamster-healthcare/38874-old-hamster-behaviour.html, Sapphire has finally passed away. I say finally because this has dragged on far too long now, and I'm glad she's now free from it all.
This morning I found her on her back, struggling to turn herself over. I stayed with her for a while, holding her while she occasionally fitted. The vet appointment to have to pts was at 9.20. Then I went to get changed and when I came back a few minutes later.. She was gone. I wasn't surprised if I'm honest... I'm just very happy she left when she wanted to. The vets would have stressed her out, I'm sure.
She would have been 2 in April so she did get a decent run at her life. She spent the majority of it sleeping or begging for attention.. and of course eating :p She was funny, one of those hamsters that was either the laziest thing around, or practically jumping up your sleeve to get let out. Heh, she never failed to bring a smile to my face.
Much as she'll be missed, I'm just so relieved she's no longer struggling or unhappy. I'm really happy that she didn't have to go to the vets either, and that I was there for her last few minutes.
Sleep well little girl xx

I'm contemplating burying her in the same woods as Topaz who she was separated from. Because Saph really did love her sister, but Topaz liked her own space. Maybe I'll find her another place, I'm not sure.
