Well I guess Bramble's Dad should be posting this, but today we had to have our gorgeous girl Bramble put to sleep. Last night we noticed that she had a very 'sticky' bottom. One of our first thoughts was wet-tail, however there was no sign of diarrohea and her tummy felt very firm and solid. WE took her to the emergency vet this morning, who confirmed our fears of pyometra. She tried to save her and was considering operating on her, but thought that she was too ill and so advised us about the kindest thing to do.

Bamble was about 18 months old, and we know that in the time she was with us she wanted for nothing. As Arti's very first 'own' hamster, he spoiled her shamelessly, and she received every comfort and attention she could wish for. She had one litter in her life, our very first litter of hamsters, and proved a most wonderful mother to all 11 pups.

Here is her website page, we took some photos of her last night, fearing the worst, and maybe when Arti feels better about it, he will post some.

Bramble had a hormone problem which meant she lost a lot of fur on her flanks, her wonderful satin fur thinning terribly. In the last month her fur has regrown and we were thrilled to see her looking so much healthier. Unfortunately, it appears this was a false hope.

Sleep well my darling girl, we will always miss you but will carry you with us, in our hearts and memories. xx

Hi, as you obviously know, Bramble passed away at the weekend. She was an absolutely beautiful hamster in every way both in looks and in personality and was always very patient with me when I wanted to take her out of her cage, even when she was not very well and needed her teeth cutting and medication.

Everyone who met Bramble always commented on how sweet she was. Bramble was my first hamsters will always hold a special place in my memory. Below are a few Bramble pics...

The first 3 picutres were taken the night before Bramble was taken to the vets and passed away. You can see here she is not feeling her best as her ears are flattened down, but even so she still wanted to come and see you and looked very sweet.

The next photo was taken in February. Around this time Bamble started perking up after she had been through a difficult time loosing her fur and generally not looking too well and taking lots of trips to the vets. She made a real effort at pouching the entire sweetcorn you can see in the background!

The photo below is of Bramble in full bloom back in March 2007 when she was pregnant with her first and only litter. She proved to be a very loving mum and kept Teresa and I mesmorised watching her bring them up as it was the first hamster litter we had bred.

Finally, her is a photo of Bramble from not long after we bought her in February 2007. I had built her a huge (and I mean HUGE, Teresa thought I was mad) rotastak setup sprawling my entire desk space with lots of tubes which she loved.

Rest in peace Bramble, you will be really missed.
