Hello folks!

After Sparrowarms' lovely homemade hamster bed surfaced on here, I had the idea to make Timi a few hanging accessories for his cage. He's a bit of a climber and the height of the Alaska cage means it looks a bit empty up top.

As I was looking at the Trixie hanging castle bed and hammock anyway, I decided to have a go at making some of these myself for him. =3

I already had a huge pile of printed cotton laying about, so I invested in some fleece and batting and set to work!

The first hammock I made came out a little small for Timi so I've decided not to use it. But then I decided to make some for a friend also. So here are some pictures of those =D

I hung it up briefly in Timi's cage while he was sleeping to get an idea of how it'd look whilst hanging, and I'm fairly proud of myself. In some parts you can see the stitching as I didn't have thread to match the colour of the material so I had to settle for black.

This is the hanging bed which I've started to call 'The Roly Poly' after the desert. I started sewing it with the view to it being a vertical bed, but as I started sewing on the hanging tags, I realised that all the vertical space would be a waste for any hamster, and the base wasn't as wide as it should be. Within about 30 seconds though, I realised I could fix that issue just by turning the bed horizontal and sewing the tags on that way, and the original design still worked.

Unfortunately I do not have access to a sewing machine that doesn't chew material for breakfast, so I had to hand-sew these. Which wasn't a terrible thing as I tend to default to hand sewing for most things. it just means that the stitches are visible in some places, so I guess before I make anymore I need to invest in some teal thread! :D

Edit: Also I apologise for the image sizes. I tried to edit them all smaller but photobucket's not having any of it. xD

I am in fact considering selling the Roly Poly and hammock Chula =3

My only problem is I'm not sure how to price them, considering the cost of fabrics and how long it takes me to hand sew :<

I also sew and I'll try making these too. Yours is probably better made than storebought. I love the vertical nest/bed. :-)
