This is Smudge! She is a dwarf, but I don't know exactly what kind. There's a lot I don't know about her, but that doesn't change how much I love her!!!

She was rescued by the SPCA, from a home that was completely unfit for her. Her story with our family started last Tuesday, 1/29/13. I found her picture on the SPCA website a few days before I brought her home to live with me. The minute I saw her, I just knew she couldn't stay there any longer!

This is the picture I saw online. She looked so sad this day.

Then I went to visit her on the 29th. She was quite interested and couldn't sit still! I loved her coloring!!

I gave her a bigger house than what she had at the SPCA and lots of nice new toys to play with :-)

She LOVES her wheel...she's never had one!!

http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s208/Kiki_3173/CAM00712_zpsb243ca1f.jpg

She's still quite a bit shy!! I am slowly working on taming.
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s208/Kiki_3173/CAM00714_zpsf25739a5.jpg

I felt like she deserved a better home, so I made her a bin (like the one her new brother, Darwin, has)...pink, for a pretty girl!! I know it is small, but it is bigger than anything she's had before and I have plans to try to upgrade her to a FOP Tamburino eventually.

Well...she's certainly not shy! She is very interested in what is going on and will come out when I talk to her, but she bats like at boxer, using her hands, when my fingers go near her. Baby steps....

Thank you everyone! Even if she isn't tame yet, she is such a joy to talk to and watch! She has a very busy personality & is all over the place when she is awake. I hope that she is settling in well and is happy.

One would think she'd gotten out of her cage and run around in my fireplace, but I assure you that is not the case :-).

Smudge was the first name that came to mind (like an ink smudge). My husband likes to joke around and call her Sludge, but I know he enjoys watching her as much as I do!! :-)

HAPPY HAPPY, JOY JOY...my little girl let me touch her for the first time today!!! :-) Granted, I bribed her with a little broccoli, but I consider it progress! lol

I thought the same thing - I told you I loved the name Smudge when you first thought of it and I still love it but when I saw more clear photos of her my first thought was Sooty. Haha! That would have been a cute name too.

Bravo on her letting you touch her. Penny still doesn't like me to touch her. But with her it doesn't seem a taming issue as much as it seems a personality issue. Divas!

Kiki, it's grand that's she's starting to get tame enough to touch. I'm so looking forward to her sitting in your hand. What a little cutie. Her name suits her to a T. :-)

So it turns out that my new little Smudge is more tame than I originally thought. She is still a little wary of my hands yet, but IF she is out of her cage, then I can pick her up and handle her. Now, the only time she is feisty is when I stick my hand in her cage. She gives me a little warning nip that says, "Hey chica...this is my space!" :-) I am really enjoying getting to know her...she's so much fun!

I found this at the Goodwill yesterday. It was TOO cute for me not to pass up. It was originally a scrubbie holder that you put on the edge of your kitchen sink to hold your sponge, but I thought it looked like the perfect little addition to Smudges cage. She now uses it as her house :-) Can't beat $1.99!

We went to the vet this past week and she looks all clear of any mites (which I thought she might have). Also found out she weighs 39 grams. Don't know if that is good, bad, or normal though.

Playtime in the bathtub:-). I absolutely adore this time that she and I share together. She crawls all over me and other than a little "taste" now & then on my ankle, she's SO tame! She's getting better...not so much cage rage now that she's in her new IKEA Hack cage. I love this little girl to no end <3

I'm working on getting some video of my little, sweet, Smudge. But for now, here are a few pics of her climbing all over mommy during her out of cage time (which she practically begs for when I get home each day) :-)

And when you consider that she could have spent the rest of her life in the shelter. Too many people don't even think of adoption. Just look at what adopting brought you... beautiful Smudge. :-)

What I adore so much about dwarfs is the back leg dangle thing they do!!! In your second picture she looks like she is doing it. When I hold Strawberry he sticks that back leg over and out and it hangs and it's so cute to me!!!

I want to hamnap that darling!!!

OHHH she's one of the most adorable dwarves i've ever seen! isn't it lovely how tame they can be? how old is she?

i rehomed my emi from a lady and her young son because the little boy was having an allergic reaction to him. i thought he might be traumatised by the move but he's one of the most tame hamsters i've ever had :)

Jesselle, you should read the whole thread on Smudge...it's a great story about a wonderful rescue. Smudge's mom rescued her from a rotten situation. I love Smudge. She has the most amazing colors.

So...for all of you that frequently follow Smudge here...I've completely messed up this posting by moving pics around in Photobucket!! Most of Smudges pics have been "deleted" because moving them in Photobucket breaks the link (which I did not know). Oh well, live and learn. I created a new thread that has all of the pics, but it certainly is not near as good because all of your comments and thoughts are not included on it. Thank you for taking such an interest in my little doll & I hope you will continue to follow Smudge's Hammy Happenings:-) I will be posting on there from now on. Here is the link to the new post:
