Well two weeks ago today they were born, and these boys and girls have come on great guns!

A couple of them have had their eyes open for a day or two, but by today, I could see all 'peepers' so I took the chance for a photo session whilst BB was having some 'me' time.

I also took the chance to do a half clean of the cage, and to have a quick handle of the pups. Having been absolutely convinced up to now we have 3 girls, I'm suddenly doubting it - we may only have two, a satin and a normal. This is the age when they are harder to sex however, so I will wait a wee while and see what happens! :D - sorry there are so many - but honestly I got rid of another 20 or so I was going to post!!

Yes ILMH they are cream - the colour darkens as they age and gets deeper. Mum is a red-eyed cream and Dad is a black eyed cream

Here is Mum Butterbean

And here is Dad, Dubaku

They look very forward for 2 weeks.

I think you are right Basia, they certainly seem round and very steady for their age! :D

......Gus, with a boyfriend arriving for your Wes shortly, I think it is probably safezt that Hobbs is a young man! But thanks, I think Dubs looks great in that photo - very regal, and not at all the soft cuddly slush-bucket he actually is :x

Well here are tonights photos - definitely only two females (one satin) and 3 males in the litter

They are currently working their way through a mountain of Tofu, broccoli and Hipp Spinach and cheesey bake

Firstly, I want to tell you a satin story....

Once upon a time a little shiny girl looked out of her nest guiltily "pouches? no I haven't got anything in my pouches"

http://www.madabouthamsters.com/images/misc/butterbean_litter_002_008a.jpg

"Oh, okay then, I have seen Mum pouch our nest, so I guessed it must be tasty, so I was just trying it out...."

http://www.madabouthamsters.com/images/misc/butterbean_litter_002_009.jpg

"I can't quite get the hang of it though - Ive made it all soggy!!"

http://www.madabouthamsters.com/images/misc/butterbean_litter_002_010.jpg

"OO that looks interesting, I want to taste your soggy wet bedding, let me have that bit"

http://www.madabouthamsters.com/images/misc/butterbean_litter_002_011.jpg

GIVE ME MY SOGGY BEDDING BACK - I WANTED THAT - YOU ALWAYS TAKE MY STUFF WITHOUT ASKING
http://www.madabouthamsters.com/images/misc/butterbean_litter_002_012.jpg

RIGHT YOU ASKED FOR IT - NOW YOU'RE GOING TO GET IT!
http://www.madabouthamsters.com/images/misc/butterbean_litter_002_013.jpg

Thank goodness this naughty satin girl is already spoken for! I do hope her new Mummy will be able to keep her in line! :D

Anyway, a photo of my more well-behaved pups - BUT WHATS THIS? STAY AWAY FROM THAT BEDDING!!!

Well tonight, at the grand age of 2 weeks and 5 days, I have taken some photos of my largest boy. I think he is a beauty with a wonderful face, and he is very sweet natured (though they are all incredibly fast at the moment, and we have to be very careful of them launching themselves out of our hands). I also think he is going to get a wonderful home, and if he doesn't he will definitely be staying with us.

Oh and just to make it very clear - those arms and legs are not mine! honest - they are Bramble's Dad's but it does remind me I need some new razors! :x

Spuds Mum
05-17-2008, 04:41 PM
Aww thanks Basia, I think he is beautiful too! :D But then I thin they all are.

My eldest daughter held 'mischief' (or Pledge or Mr Sheen as Arti calls her) tonight and fell head over heels for her. I think Yaffle may have to physically remove her from my Amy's hands!! :D

Basia
05-17-2008, 04:45 PM
I can understand why Amy has fallen for her! Satins always do look especially lovely and she is just gorgeous.
Butterbean and Dubs have done you proud - I have been waiting a long time waiting for you to do this mating and was beginning to think you never would!

Spuds Mum
05-17-2008, 04:56 PM
 it seems strange that the reason we got Dubs and BB in the first place was to mate them - and we so nearly missed the boat  And do you know - Ive never had a cream baby before now??? how bizarre is that when all my matings have involved sables, minks and creams somewhere in there! :D

Basia
05-17-2008, 05:05 PM
That is strange! Well at least you have a lovely cream litter now, especially considering you have given up creams. :P
Are you just keeping the one?

I've not taken photos tonight Im afraid, but will get some (including some of Eggy's girlfriend to be) tomorrow night. I weighed all the babies tonight though - they will be 3 weeks tomorrow.
Smallest boy 48g
medium boy 57g
Basia's boy 63g
Evaine 61g
Eggy's girlfriend 71g

I dont know what the weights actually mean, as I never weighed any of my litters this early before, but I would say the smallest is about the size of my other litters - the others seem heeuuugge for their age. What does everyone think? :D

Basia
05-18-2008, 03:01 PM
They are little porkers aren't they? I think I may just have thought of a name for mine....
I wish all litters were just 5 or 6 babies, I'm sure they are better for it.

I've never weighed any of mine that young before either but they do sound enormous! I started weighing my last lot at 5 weeks and had no real idea what a normal 5 week weight range was so I'll be interested to see how these develop

Looking forward to the piccies!

I need to ask something actually - and I forgot.

Middle boy and Basia's boy seem to have whiskers that curl inwards (you might see from the photos). their fur is starting to grow longer, but bearing in mind that their Grandma is from the same litter as Mollz and Mollz' Mum's Charlie and Doodle's Mum - you dont think they could possibly be rex do you? When would I be able to tell?
And if they are not, do you think it might be possibly a sign they carry rex?

Its just something that I have noticed on these boys - but it may be totally normal, and if so apologies for my stupidity!

Basia

My Chunky's whiskers are a bit curly and Jenny said he was carrying rex.
Have just had another look at their curly whiskers - aren't they cute!

Oh I love that little boy :P and all of the rest of them .....

It does look as if Basias boy (in those last two pictures) has curly whiskers, although I also see that some are straight - so I don't know. I'll see if I can find a good picture of Doodles' face for comparison (although Doodles is very curly compared to them)....

I just looked at the post BourneValley did of the Kava litter, and I definitely dont think that ours are rexes - but it does make you wonder whether they could possibly be carrying it - or if I'm just making it up! Its strange though, as Id forgotten there was a family connection between these and Doodles/Charlie, so didnt think about rexes but suddenly saw the whiskers and a lightbulb came on!

Oh no!!! Available? Really??? I'm very very tempted. OMG, what's happening to me?!! Its just so happens that I have one spare Gabber left and I'll have a spare Wodent Wheel when I've collected mine from Holly at Blenheim...hmmm....and now Holly is pushing me over the edge saying he looks just like Button as I ADORE Button! I already have 3 hamster cages sitting on the floor as I can't work out where to put shelves for them (without hiding my pictures - or building over the windows!) Hmmm. I do like to keep things in the family, and since I already have one of Dubaku's grandchildren (Monte), I think my days of looking at pictures on the wall might be over. :?

Spud's Mum, would you consider letting me have him? I promise he'll be worshipped (and his every whim catered to). Please????

Holly, I blame you for this! Well, I blame Button. Spud's Mum has kindly agreed I can have the little boy so I'm collecting him this Sun at Blenheim! I can hardly contain my excitement!!! I'm waiting for Monte to wake up so I can tell him that his uncle is coming to live with us. Aww it will make her all the more special for waiting Yaffle, and Arti says we haven't quite finished training her yet.

He says the intensive training is to ensure she gives you a nibble the first time you hold her, as this is obviously something that seems to happen every time you hold a new hamster :P So far we are failing miserably - she hasn't so much as licked us - so we need the extra time  :x

All the pups are spoken for apart from the middle boy, and I just can't see me letting him go to be honest. Ooops - I may have just let Arti know about another hamster via the forum (again) :D

To be entirely honest I love them all too much to let them go  and that just shows what a nice person I am (Basia and ELC and Yaffle to note!! :P ) I am just so happy that they are going to some really splendid homes and new Mummies.

As for the boys, I have decided to keep every one of them at one stage or another - of course before owners came along!! The only one that was ever safe was Evaine, and that was only because I knew that Yaffle really wanted a satin, and had asked for a girl from the litter, so it was already done really as soon as her fur came in. I still love her just as much though, but have always thought of her as Yaffle's baby :D :D

And you can laugh now Mollz - lets see how you feel in approximately four weeks  oh and if I keep a boy carrying rex, what I could really do with is a lovely cream girl either rex or carrying - hmmm wonder where I might find one..... :x

He says the intensive training is to ensure she gives you a nibble the first time you hold her, as this is obviously something that seems to happen every time you hold a new hamster :P So far we are failing miserably - she hasn't so much as licked us - so we need the extra time  :x
:D

Noooooo I don't want a naughty little nibbler

Still, I can't imagine any hamster of yours to bite SM, I think she'll be with you a lot longer yet for you to train her to do that (dont get any ideas she's mine all mine :x )

I know, I know - I'll be awful, but mum will be worse! I'm sure I'll want to keep every one of them, but as you said having good homes lined up will definitely help (and I have 3 already).
And I know where you could find a nice cream girly rex/carrying rex......

Aw it's so nice when babies from our litters go to other people on the forum. I'm so happy to be having Bailey and be able to see pictures of his siblings growing up with their new forum mum's.
Then later in the summer my little boy or girl from Molz and her Mum will be coming home and it sounds as though I may be keeping in touch with some of his or her siblings too. :P

I would love a Mollz baby for my Curly boy, but I think I ought to talk to someone about Curly boy staying before I talk to him about a Curly boy girlfriend  as soon as I do though - someone will no doubt be getting an email!!

Oh, please don't feel like you have to have a baby from us!
Of course, we would be thrilled if one did go to you, but don't feel at all pressured (especially if it gets you in trouble with Arti!).

Picture time!

Well the kids are growing very well, and have been removed from Mum, who is now relaxing and eating well.

I also weighed the pups tonight - so at 3 weeks 5 days we have (and 5 days since last weighed)

Tilly (mine) 97g + 26
Bailey (Basia) 87g + 24
Evaine (Yaffle 83g + 22
Flymo (mine) 79g + 22
Butterscotch?? (ELC) 69g + 21

so they all seem to be gaining weight well.
Anyway - photos....

And Evaine is still being a monster Yaffle - but the others now seem to have worked out a way to cope with her... they all just pile up each other on top of her and squash her into submission!

And, though it is out of focus (he was being friendly and came up for a cuddle before I could take the shot) here is what would have been a lovely photo of ELC's baby!

Awww they all look fab and my Evaine is just bootiful :P

Evaine actually really looks like Minx in the 4th photo (same Dad) and it seems like they have similar personalities too.

I really can't wait to collect Evaine but I know another week or so's running on with Tilly will do her good. I went to p@h today and saw a lovely looking little boy and I was soooooo tempted, I held him and named him any everything  but the thought of my little Evaine kept me strong and I resisted temptation - just!
