Hi friends~ So i made some stuff, i guess most of it are far from finished but I thought I'd just share on the weird things that come to my mind that are hammie-proof (i think) and safe for them to play with. I'd like to credit StuCil (http://www.hamstercentral.com/community/diy-do-yourself-hamster-projects/32887-my-popsicle-stick-creations.html) and Fullmoonnight (http://www.hamstercentral.com/community/diy-do-yourself-hamster-projects/32569-popsicle-stick-madness.html) for the inspiration and ideas that some of their creations gave me =D> So here are some of the stuff I made (and are still in progress :p).

What did you use to "glue" the sticks together?

Took the advice of more experienced hammie parents on here and used a hot glue gun to do the glueing ;) what we're basically aiming for is anything water-based, non-toxic and odorless 8)

I figured you might have used starch and hot water, I didn't know you could hot glue. Interesting

I know, I'd thought maybe it should be some edible glue or something, but yeah, hot glue is safe too

My, those rails look familiar XD I love the roof it's a nice touch. As for making it better might I suggest adding another floor on that really tall side half way up (where that horizontal stick is?) Just a suggestion you don't have to do it. It's just what I might have done haha.

Haha! Thanks and I hope you don't mind  I did give you credit for the idea in my first post :D oh, that's a great idea! I'll do that, as soon as I restock my supply of sticks (I finished a whole pack just for this) 8-[

Hemp thread; usually used for securing packages for courier (at least it's used for that over here) ;)

lol your flattery is lies >:D Mine are crooked and a mess. Yours are neat and clean.

It's the worst when your half way through a project and you run out D: I buy so many packs of popsicle sticks and my mom is always like " Again? You just bought some last time!"

How come I just see this thread now??!!

I finally saw ur work and oh my you did a brilliant job! They look really nice and neat. Your ham is so lucky :D

What's that thing you used for the bridges? I have always wanted to make a bridge, but just couldn't find the right material lol

Oh and the labyrinth looks really good! Did your ham enjoy it?

teehee  thank you for your kind words  uhm, i used paper receipt rolls; they're kinda like a mini, sturdier version on toilet paper rolls. For the 2nd picture, they're held together by hemp thread :) i've seen some others that use thin wires to hold their suspended bridges together, but i kinda suck at bending wires so.. 8-[ oh the mini labyrinth! once my little girl found her way out of it, she just zooms in the same path no matter where i place her next. my other boy hammie likes to go with the flow; he goes wherever the road takes him 8)

Seems like you hamsters really enjoy everything you made

I should try the hemp tread for my swing! It looks good on yours! Does the ham nibble at it?

Errm, and maybe you can make a deep digging box for your next project! Soemthing like this

I have always wanted to make one, but just coudnt get my hands to start

I think they enjoy it a little too much; they tend to go 'skydiving' from the balcony of the platform :-| thanks  and nope, they haven't nibbled at it so far, which is a good thing, coz I was worried they might :D ohh! That looks like fun! Uhm.. Is there only one way in and out? Or there's a little hole at the bottom there? Shall I use bedding as the digging material? :D

Aww that sounds so cute lol. It's good that they don't nibble at it, I might buy some hemp asap  Yep there's a little hole at the bottom! and maybe to encourage the ham to dig in the box we can put in some treat inside it, it's gonna be like they're digging and find a treasure :D

what concerns me is that transparent side, what, should we use glass or maybe just plastic something? I don't think popsicle sticks can hold glass that well lol

Yes, very cute, no doubt bout that; I'm just worried they might hurt themselves  that is a terrific idea! :D I'll start work on it right away  hmm.. I just made a bin cage recently, I still have the clear plastic cut-out bit from the storage bin, maybe I'll use that~! :D

uhm.. well.. i dont really keep track of the time i spend working on making stuffs but i have managed to finish at least two built-ups in a day. 8-[ they're pretty solid, since i made them just quite recently, but i guess it all boils down to how strong the glue that's holding the pieces together is :-k

i just made a deep diving box, as suggested by StuCil in the above post :D

 I am humbled at your kind words  I've a lot of time since I'm on my semester break from college, so just sat there for few hours and it came out like that 8-[ hehe ~ now I've got to get work done on my second bin cage so I can put my girly in with her new toys \\:D/

Uhm.. The boxes I got to make the bin cages is (in my opinion) quite small, so I guess only the platforms, suspended bridge, and house(s) and maybe the deep digging box will be in the cages :) the rest will be laid out for them in their playpen during playtime :D

Aw it works well! Did he enjoy his journey? Lol

and about the fabric to use for the hammock, I think it probably depends on the ham, some enjoy to chew fabric and some others dont, maybe you could put the fabric first and observe to see whether the ham chew it or not. Well that's just what I think though

Swing - Hamster Central Photo Gallery (http://www.hamstercentral.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=1258&cat=500)

I bought some lolly sticks today and a glue gun. I made a low-rent clone of your swing. It's not perfect, but I wanted to praise your design and photo. It wasn't hard at all to put it together looking off yours.

Maggie wasn't sure of it when I showed it to him tonight. But perhaps tomorrow he'll give it a go. If not, I have a coffee table curio.

Best.
