Sooooo
We went to see her, we set up a meeting time later this evening, and we got her a few hours ago!!!EEEEEEP she is so cute and friendly! I've never met a more social dwarf!! We called her Aisling, meaning roughly dream or inspiration, and it suited :3

More info to come (I'm exhausted lol) but for now, two pics!!

Aww thanks Erin!

So she is settling rather well, although she does a few things that I'm going to post a thread about because I'm not sure if they are something to be concerned about or not. Regardless, she appears to be a happy hammie. While her original home was far from ideal, the little girl who owned her clearly invested the time in handling her, because she is very content to be out of her tank and just sit, which I am still baffled by lol.

Anywho, MORE PICTURES!

What's her Q mark and what are her issues?

That last photo is amazing!

She's excessively overweight, and she's not even three months old yet. I'm dealing with that with a nice big wheel, lots of activities and better food (thanks to Silver's advice lol). She also appears to struggle with getting food out of her pouches, as I put into a post yesterday. She eats (clearly) but she seems to never be able to get the food from her pouch, which makes no sense. I am also concerned about mites, but I don't know how much scratching is normal for her as I just brought her home, as I know some hamsters just scratch and groom more than others, and she has no other signs, but I'm being paranoid. Hoping time tells.

And thank you! She has been so patient with me checking her over thoroughly, and she just has the sweetest disposition, as that picture kinda depicts

she'll lose the weight :) my wonton was overweight and he is now a lovely size due to a cage change and silver's dwarf mix :) he's much more active.

hope someone can explain the mite thing as i am a little clueless too.

I am mostly concerned about the pouch thing, because I've never really heard of anything like it before, so it's really puzzling

jesselle
09-18-2012, 08:35 AM
what happens when she tries? i've noticed wonton seems to keep stuff for too long in his pouches... or just constantly fills them. he's bonkers but i love him :)

HammieandMerlin

for the most part nothing happens, she just pushes at it with her feet to no avail 9 times out of ten. I don't know why, her teeth are fine, and when her pouches are empty there are no symptoms of infection

So, here is the 1 week update: SHE HAS LOST WEIGHT!!!!! The wheel made such a difference, honestly, the little girl just ran until she fell asleep, then ran some more. She is starting the mealworm replacement for corn tomorrow (took a long time to find some) so I imagine we'll only see more ups. Here are some photos that I feel show a real change lol

She has also regained use of her pouches, I really do think it was all the extra weight in her way that she just didn't really know what to do, she's a different hammie now

jesselle

Wow! She'll be size zero before we know it... She's so chic ;)

I'm really glad her pouches are back in use! Must've been so frustrating for her before.

Any decisions on whether you'll be keeping her? ;)

I'm really glad too, I was so stressed out about it because I had no idea what it could've been. And I know! She looks fabulous lol

I think I'm going to see if we can find the perfect owner, but we're going to be really picky, and Mike's gotten attached to her too, so it isn't looking good for that plan lol

Found her the CUTEST little bridge today at Petsmart, so I figured I had to buy it for her even though we're trying not to get attached....we're getting attached

http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh211/sweetlilrocknroll_1959/aisling14_zps130d3b20.jpg

And I mean, who wouldn't? She's using the railing and EVERYTHING

jesselle

oh brilliant :) any pics? i love her she's so cute. are you thinking of rehoming her still? if only i was in canada :D

HammieandMerlin
10-09-2012, 07:20 AM
Ideally I would like to re home her, so I can help hamsters like her have a better second chance, but I'm having a hard time finding a person who would look after her the way I would, you know? And I will be adding pics later today! I agree she is SUCH a doll, it is ridiculous

jesselle
10-09-2012, 07:36 AM
oh yeah i know... i'm not sure i'd ever let a ham go if i started rehoming! but i think it's great that you're providing a halfway house for these little ones.

oooo can't wait for pics of her!

How did you get that water bottle to stick to the glass?
I have been wanting to figure something out for a lonnggggg time! :)

HammieandMerlin
10-09-2012, 03:47 PM
You just go to Dollarama and get a package of Velcro and you cut each piece to size :) super cheap and easy

jesselle
10-10-2012, 12:56 AM
Oh I want her... If you were here I'd adopt her in a second :) she looks lovely and I can see the weight loss.

HammieandMerlin

awww I'm so glad other people can see it! And if I were there, I'd trust you with her no doubt, I just wish Canada had more educated hamster parents

Aw, that's great news. She seems to have bonded with you and now you can fully attach!

What was behind the decision then?

So cute! Glad you got to keep her.

HammieandMerlin
10-17-2012, 05:38 AM
Well we've been looking into people who were interested in adopting her, and it was just becoming too much. No one was good enough. Then one morning I was holding her when my OH came home and I was bawling at the idea of giving her up so he was like.... Why not just keep her?
