What other pets do you have?

This is Harry the Labrador (who inherited his name from a long line of Harry the Hamsters!)

And Rufus the Guinea-pig - having a bath for his skin, and not best pleased about it!

I have three other pigs too, Matilda, Fievel and Bronwyn. Rufus and Matilda came from a rescue centre along with Matilda's sister Daisy who died before xmas. Rufus was on his own but had just been neutered, so I got all three and he had a little harem :). Fievel came into the vets whilst I was working as a nurse - sad story, he was sold from a pet shop (P@H  ), and returned 6 weeks later, the new owners wanting to return him as he was "defect". He had a broken leg, which had healed in an awkward position - basically imagine your forearm snapped in the middle and then healing at a right angle pointing in towards your body. The pet shop believe it or not gave them their money back! Then bought him to us to be put down! Their was nothing else wrong with him, and he could walk fine (with a bit of a limp), his only problem was he was absolutely petrified of people. I had a spare hutch so he came straight home with me. Rufus didn't like him though so we neutered Fievel too and I got a girlfriend for him (Bronwyn) from the pet handling barn at uni - I chose quite an outgoing pig to try and bring him out of his shell a bit - but now she just bosses him around! He is much better with people now, will always be a bit more nervous than the others I think.

That's my lot at the moment :)

Did he break his leg when they had him or when they bought him :?: How bizarre but lucky for him as he gets to go home with you :!: Is there anything that could be done for the leg - like rebreaking or something, although sometimes it may not heal properly and have to be amputated. I imagine if he is able to get around fine without it they may either just leave it alone or remove it if it is causing him any discomfort :?:

Well - it's highly suspicious they only noticed he was "defect" six weeks after they bought him!

It was a year and a half ago I got him. It had already healed in position when he was bought in, and he was walking on it ok. Just watching him casually you hardly notice he's got it now, he shows no signs of pain now. He's developed a callus where his leg touches the ground, and it's hardened up. The only realistic option apart from leave it was to amputate, and we decided unless it caused him real problems or got infected, that leaving it was the safest thing. Until the callus developed a bit he was on vetbed instead of shavings. We have to clip his nails on that paw regularly too as they're pointing in/up and don't get worn down. Other than that, he's a normal happy little boy with a bossy girlfriend (who also looks after him - he often won't come out of the sleeping area when strange people are around, Bronwyn will pick some food out of the dish, take it into the bedroom for him, and then come back and get some for herself to eat, bless her).

Guinea-pigs are my second love after hamsters - they are brilliant animals.

Aw she sounds lovely what a little sweetheart

You seem to have been quite lucky with your pet choices - all your little ones (including Harry) sound adorable

I have heard guinea pigs can not always be that easy to pair up :!: :?: :!:

Wow how big is Mandy :?:

I had a Jack Russel Terrier all through childhood called Mandy she was so great and her puppies were like Syrian Hamsters :!:

My sister has a Blue Roan (Tweed) and a Lemon (Fleck) Cocker Spaniel - I think they are very pretty, intelligent, major furballs! They are just normal size though.

I love pets.. Id have more if I could but I’m lacking the space

I have two cats.. They both have an interesting story as rescues. Yari is the first cat my husband and I adopted. Or should I say she adopted us. It was probably three years back now in February, and the coldest week of the year as there was still plenty of snow on the ground. My husband and I were at a person's house whom we help with his business and were about to go someplace for the day.

This man told us about this stray cat he had seen that was hanging around the house and he was feeding it pieces of ham and dog food. Apparently this person had a member of the family take the cat in for a few days but when she vomited and had diarrhea on their sofa they brought her back. So this guy decided to put her in an old rabbit cage in his shed but she had diarrhea all over the place so he put her back outside and she was living under this old trailer.

I was hoping that we would see her when we arrived at his house but there was no sign of her. I feared the she probably already dead. But when we came back to this man's house to take our car back home and were talking in the driveway this meek little wiry furred looking cat wobbled up to us meowing looking drunk because she was so emaciated she could hardly stand. Her eyes looked bad, her nose and ears and pads were literally all frost bitten and black, he fur looked greasy and she smelled of faecal matter. I cant say I have ever seen a stray cat in such bad shape, and she was only about six month old.

After debating on what to do we got a box put her in it and brought her home where I first gave her a bath and dried her off with a towel and blow dryer. I think we waited a few days before taking her to the vets to see if she'd make it through the night. We set her in a old wire ferret cage with a litter box and water and canned cat food.

To try and make this story shorter, we did bring her to vets and it turned out she had an ear infection so bad the vet didn’t think she could even hear us the whole time. They checked her for diseases and the vet was extremely surprised to find none. They told us they thought she would loose the tips of her ears to first bite, and although at the time it was never said the vet never though she would make it. But she did!!

Here is a collage of pictures I put together starting from the first day we brought her home and showing her recovery over the next year or so. She really looks like a different cat http://www.artwanted.com/imageview.cfm?ID=120703&SubGal=Photography

She’s probably now the most beautiful cat I have ever seen, her fur is incredibly soft, and I think she may have some Persian in her. My husband and I think she must have been abandoned because she was very friendly.

Our next cat is Woody, we have probably had him now for about 5 or 6 months. We adopted him from the PetSmart adoption center. We like to look at the cats but never brought one home, But one day we happened to go and saw Woody an orange and white tabby. He didn’t do anything special just lay there and look at us, but I had a feeling about him. I had been wanting a cat of my own that was cuddly and let me hold him. Yari is more my husband's cat, and she hates to be picked up, although she is very loving, and talks to us all the time.

I didn’t say anything but later in the evening brought it up. My husband said he had a feeling too but didn’t want to say anything. Three days later we went back and adopted him, and he is just what I was looking for. Woody was stuck in his small cage in the adoption center for about a month and a half before we came along.

Here is a picture of them together.

Woody is larger then Yari, but she beats him up all the time. Poor guy!

Then there is my personal pet Houdini (aka little green monster) she’s my lovebird. I bought her when she was still young her adult primary colors weren’t even in yet. She was still being hand fed so when I bought her I took on the responsibility of hand rearing her and weaning her off the bird formula, so we are both very bonded.

She does drive me nuts sometimes though, especially my husband but I love her and she keeps me company.

Here she is inside a tissue box ready to defend it my biting my finger off if I come to close. She is a Dutch blue mutation

Besides my cats and bird we also have a 75 gallon fish tank in the living room with fresh water fish and in the bedroom a 29 gallon tank with two goldfish in it.

Then of course my two Roborovskis hamsters Macchu and Pichu, seen in my current avatar

A frog :?: :!: Wow. As children, growing up on a farm we used to grow frog spawn in a jam jar and then transport the tadpoles into a fish tank. When they turned inot little froggies we used to take them and release them in local ponds. Otherwise the frogspawn used to get all eaten and there were hardly any frogs.

I would quite like a froggie - I'd call him Kermit :!:

well as everyone can read from my signature I have 5 fishtanks, and Bear. I have two female bettas (princess and cuty) each in their own tank, in my 36 gallon tank I have a bala shark (schizo), 4 cherry barbs, 4 clown loaches, 2 guppies, and Mr. personality the pleco that I have had for 3 years now. It is his tank. In the 30 gallon tank I have 4 gold barbs, a neon tetra that just amazes me, and a pleco called spot. Then I have my 2.5 gallon tank that houses wiggle butt the black moor goldfish. When I first got him my clown loaches beat him up pretty bad so he is in the 2.5 gallon until he is a little larger. Then there is Bear. All my friends are in my living room because I enjoy their company. Plus Bear is a people person. :D I'm glad there are so many people out there that love animals and share pictures. I lost my bestfriend Autumn to cancer. She was a german Rotti. 130 pound full size all muscle. She went everywhere with me. I had to have her put down. That was one of the hardest things I ever had to do.

Oh I love cold water fish though as a Marine Biologist I would desperately love a coral display. I would love to see pictures of your fish, especially your bettas. We only ever see them referred to as Siamese Fighting Fish in the UK. I am hoping to get a male and a pair of females soon - I have two tanks don't worry. I cannot wait to see my first live bubble nest

So sorry to hear about Autumn - I love Rottweilers (Rottys) - they feel so smooth and warm, and as you say are solid muscle so walk with such power and purpose.

sorry, I've been away ever since wednesday (MARCH BREAK !) Yes he was a absolute surprise ! This has happened before but the poor baby couldn't make it (It's very hard to sex my type of lizards, also they don't usually breed, they're quite picky !) As for my fish crisis, it has gotten as bad as possible ! I'm now down to 2 fish (a guppie and an algae eater ) 7 fish died over 7 days ! One fish a day !!!!!!!!!
