Goodbye lovely Flash

Little flash, what can I say. He was a lovely golden banded hamster who I rescued from a family that had him in one of the most disgusting cages I've ever seen! Then he came here to be spoilt and found his home in a 90 x 50 old rat cage! He was friendly And sweet and liked to squeal for the first few weeks but after that he was great and was the hammy I took into school to teach my year 6 class about responsibility and how to look after a pet. He was so docile and chilled - not bothered at all. Then last night at play time I fin him out of his nest laying awkwardly. I thought he'd broken his leg how he was laying and so we rang the emergency vet. On the visit there it wasn't looking hood, he wasn't moving at all. The bet looked at him and said his legs were fine he was severely dehydrated. I explained to the vet that the evening before he had been playing fine an had a little piece of cucumber as a treat so I was surprised he was so dehydrated. The admitted him and gave him fluids and warmed him up. They called at 11pm to say that he was not improving an the best thing to do now was pts. The vet suspected he had an underlying metabolic condition. It was so sad but the right thing to do.
