Thanks everyone! They are amazing little creatures. I spent the whole weekend trying to convince my bro that they are small but bursting with character. He wasn't having any of it though [-(:rolleyes:

I switched Emi from ZZ1 to the old style HH last night, and Wonton from a Mini Duna to the ZZ1. Both cages have new bits arriving to complete them. Emi, the hyperactive one, had a little photo shoot.

She ran so much on her flying saucer that she ran upstairs to do the pancake as she got too hot! She's nuts :mad: and very pretty, you can see her pretty face in the last pic. Such a beauty!

emi is getting more confident, the hamster heaven has helped as she likes climbing out of the front door onto me! it's almost two weeks since i rehomed her and i think she might be starting to get used to me :) slowly does it though!

wonton is his usual slow self :p he's been enjoying burrowing and has been coming out to say hello whenever i'm near his cage :D he's such a sweetheart. i'm a little worried about his health, he's either a lazy ham or a bit under the weather. i think it might be time to test him for diabetes :( i'm going to start removing corn etc from his food and have just ordered some of silver's basic mix for him to try...

Emi came out to see what I was doing when I got home from work :cool: I was changing his tampax sand box (HA) for a shiny new permanent dish!

Rehomed him almost 3 weeks ago now and he is trusting me much more. Look at his colouring... he's so pretty :D

wonton has been quiet lately and is enjoying sleeping and burrowing into the tunnels he's created in his substrate!! he's my little lazybones and still pops out to see me every now and then :)

i use carefresh natural... i've just ordered a 60litre bag online for just over £16 including postage. it's £4.99 in p@h for a 14litre bag so it works out a little cheaper.

babies got moved into our room last night as we have decorators in the living room today! this is their new table for those who didn't see my post in hamster chat :) it's working well so far... wonton's new criceti 15 is arriving today and will sit where the ZZ1 is right now.

Some new, not so great pics of my cuties :) I've been spoiling them a bit since I got back from my holiday. Wonton has lost some weight and has been more active since he started on Silver's mix for hybrids and moving into a large cage, it's really great to see a positive change in him! I just wish I'd made these changes 6 months ago. Emi is becoming confident, he waits/climbs the HH door to come out when I'm nearby. It's so sweet!!! He enjoys me sitting by the cage door and he incorporates me into his night time activities. Run on wheel, run round cage, run out to the human! :)

Thanks :) Emi has a really unusual coat! It is very silvery and pale with brown and grey splotches.

Fly - there are plenty of pets needing homes on gumtree. hope you find some chineseys!

Pez - i've rehomed three hybrids, all at 6 months of age. 2/3 of them weren't handled much. the 2 that weren't handled regularly took a lot more time to warm to me than emi (who was handled by a kid and his mum). wonton wasn't handled much and was a little scared but because he loves food so much, he was easy to tame into handling! he's so relaxed now that i can give him a treat and then scoop him up out of his cage, sometimes he flops out onto his back whilst eating in my hand!! he isn't scared of me, or aggressive, but he does nip if you smell of food. he hasn't grasped the concept of testing before sinking his teeth in!!! as per my threads on his smell-related biting :) i don't know if this is hybrid or personality-related. my first hybrid esme, was very fast and jumpy. she wasn't handled and had had a litter! she was actually kept in terrible surroundings :( she calmed down eventually after a lot of time and patience and would come out for handling but i'm not sure she enjoyed it as much as wonton. esme never bit or nipped. and then there's emi, who i have had for just over a month now. he is very speedy but also very keen to come out of his cage! he became used to me after about two weeks. we're still working on him but he has been no trouble at all. he's nipped VERY gently when i have smelt of food, but he seems to test first.

like everyone would say, smelling of food is a no no with any ham and as for nippers/good handlers, it's kind of down to their personality and also how you tame them. if you wanted to have more of a chance of tame ham, i'd go for a pure bred winter white from a reputable breeder. still no guarantees though! i've found hybrids to be great pets with loads of personality :) and i handle them every day :)

Thank you for a great answer! :D I will try a dwarf then, ive read some about them during this night and i must say i have not read alot about them biting ^_^
I will have to adopt or buy from petstore, because we only have syrian breeders in our country and they live all the way at the south end of Norway. Because i Live in the North and Norway is a very long country i will have to do with a petstore hybrid. I hope none will judge me on it, cause i know its not good to support the mass-production off rodents, but then again, the hamsters are already born and if i dont take one it could face a horrible faith. The rodents who dont get sold by a young age gets eaten by snakes caus snake owners will buy them cheap from the store. some also freeze hammies, mice and rats in the store for reptile consumption :(
I will ofc look for a dwarf i can adopt, but since Norway is so long it may not be posible to find one in my area...

i wouldn't judge you at all... of course it's not your ideal and you know you wouldn't support mass breeding if you had the choice readily available, but you also know you're going to give one of those little hams a great home :)

i can post some handling vids if you like :) might be a challenge filming it though!

Emi has been quiet the past two days... I actually started to worry about him but his appetite is good and he has been running about as usual, just a little less. Will keep my eye on him. He only wanted to give bum shots, but it's a nice way to see his unusual coat :)

aw :) i was away for some of the weekend and my oh was at home. emi has started to 'ask' to come out of his cage recently. this consists of peeking out of the bars of the HH and then climbing the front door until i come and open it and pick him up!!!

apparently he was doing this on sunday morning, when he heard my oh get up. poor baby must've wondered where i was!

Little update on my guys \\:D/

Wonton hasn't been too well lately, as you may have read in the healthcare section. He has a problem with his scent gland and is coming to the end of his course of baytril. Next step is to have some gas so that the vet can have a proper look around at it :( He's acting OK, maybe a little quiet, but his appetite is still top notch, I swear he'll never lose it! He just LOVES food :grin: Here he is, after 'falling' into the treat box:

Been letting emi free roam in the spare room, hoping it'll help him lose some weight! He's 67-69g and he is a small ham. I think 63-65g might be better for him.

I'll have a tough job of it though as he attacks food containers when he's out!

Cages - one is a zoozone 2 and one is a ferplast maxi duna multy :) both 100x50cm

He's 17 months now :) and looking good! He's still urinating a lot but he has his hydrating foods and vitamins so he's doing well. Slowing down a little though.

i had a lovely half hour with emilio this morning. for those who saw my post on the growth in his ear, it is now completely healed and emi seems to have fully recovered from the experience now - he was a little quiet for a week post op.

he's approaching 21 months now and he has a mixture of quiet and active days :) today was an active day.

first we started with a cuddle!

Little update on my boy

He has his winter coat on! Lovely to see this for a 2nd time :)

His ear really isn't looking good - he's lost weight and I'm torn between putting him through anything else now at his age. He'll be two in January. I may get it looked at but I don't think I'll choose further surgery.

So, I'm enjoying as much time as possible with him now, which he seems to be doing too! He won't leave me alone once he spots me in the hamster room hehe. My lovely little boy.

My little emi is now 22 months old... He's much smaller than he used to be and he has a growth in his ear which is growing.

He's still as lively as ever and his winter coat is stunning! I love my little buddy :)

Emi is such a gorgeous little man, I have often had to make the same choices as you re treatment, and will second guess myself over and over. I just conclude that any choice made out nothing but love for them is never the wrong choice. I hope your little guy is about for a long time yet, I do love a little old man ham :D:D

Emi is very wobbly on his feet now and has lost more weight. He's also lost fur on his tail?! I'm assuming that's old age.

Emilio left us overnight in his sleep, peaceful and cosy in his beloved wooden cabin bed.

He was on his way to 2 yrs and 6 mths. My gorgeous little heart hamster. What an amazing little creature you were.

I will do a memorial when I can. It's been a rough few days for me as I lost one of my bunnies after days of her being very poorly. I'm a very sad pet mama.
