Today I had to say goodbye to my beautiful girl Darcey. She had been aging dramatically over the last 2 weeks, but today when I saw her she was so weak and not interested in food, so I knew it was time for her to go. She couldnt continue to be thre strong little girl that she always was - even though her mind was trying, her body wouldnt allow it.
Darcey, thank you for letting me take care of you. I will always remember bringing you home - you were 5 months old already, and the last one left in the litter at the pet shop. You must have been waiting for me to come by becase I cant underdstand why someone didnt snap you up before - you were stunning - such a thick, shiney coat and a delicious deep brown colour - but I am so glad they didnt and that i was able to take you home.
You were tame and curious from the start, and soon after a taste of freedom you loved coming out of your cage and were litterally hanging off my arm every time I put it into your cage. You were always on the go, running around for the next adventure.
You loved eating my carpet, athough I didnt mind because it was old and worn already. It was funny to see you attack it with such vigour. Im sorry to say that your carpet is being replaced soon, but I hope you find a nice big carpet to chew up at the bridge.
Soon enough your amazing, strong, determined little character shone through and I admired you for it. Especially when you had to have an operation to remove an ovarian cyst a little while ago and you were bouncing around the cage that very night wanting to come out. I admired you the last two weeks, showing such will to go on - but you couldnt continue to fight any longer.
I truly believe I will never meet another hamster like you, Darcey. Others will come, but none will be able to match your personality - its actually difficult to put into words. You were like a little human in a hamster suit.
I tried my best for you beautiful girl, and I know you enjoyed your life here - you showed me that everyday. I am sooo pleased for the wonderful moments we have shared together and want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing me such joy. nothing else made my day better than seeing you and playing with you.
Rest well Darcey darling, you are now free from pain, restored to your beautiful, chubby self. I have so many wonderful memories to cherish and I wait for the day that we can meet again. Go find Little Mo, Daisy, Willow, and all the HC hams at the bridge. Im sure they will be very pleased to have a friend like you. I love you xxxxx
and now for some pictures to remember her in her best days
Very soon after I brought you home, on one of your first play times out of the cage
