Hi All, I've been doing cross-stitching for some years I had a break for a while but have now become addicted again. These are two of my most recent creations.

This is one I made for the birth of Rhi's baby Gracie_Mae. I always have them framed professionally.
While it was in progress

This is a Springtime Alphabet Sampler. I already have Summer, Autumn & Winter ones planned to do. I'm going to get it off to the framers soon but I am on finishing another one at the moment that is to be a surprise gift.

wow those are really beautiful. I think gifts like these are so very meaningful when they take so much time and effort and are made because the person really loves the recipient.
I have done a few myself and enjoy it but my eyesight isn't what it was so I find it hard to concentrate wearing glasses for too long.

they are very good. I used to cross stitch. I have I think 5 in frames. I will have to take pictures of them when I go to my parents on Wednesday (If I remember!). They never came with me when I moved out a few years ago now!

I used to find it so relaxing

Thanks guys. I love doing them & it is is very theraputic. Souffle I did Rhi's baby one with 27 count Zweigart & that was very hard on my eyes. I'm sticking to 14 count Aida as it's much easier.

I tried to do one on the smaller count was a kit didn't realise until I had undone it. 14 count is so much easier, you don't go all square eyed!

Wow, they are amazing Rach. The frame really finishes it off.

I would love to do something like this. What would you recommend for a beginner? How much does something like the alphabet one cost and how much are frames (if you don't mind saying)?

I've never done it before either. Probably should have a go at it. Also want to know what you would recommend to start off. :)

They're beautiful, I recognise the first one, I think my mum might have done a similar one once. I absolutely love the alphabet sampler :D

I've been cross stitching recently, been doing some more of the one I posted about here http://www.hamstercentral.com/community/creative-corner/23522-cross-stitching.html I didn't do much more after I posted but I've done loads over the last week :D

You should have a go Charley and Biscuit! The basic stitches aren't hard at all and once you learn those it's easy to get the hang of it. I'd start off with something small on 14 count aida. The only things I've found really difficult is when there are massive gaps in the design and counting along the line to get it all in the right place. I end boss eyed! French knots took me a long time to get the hang of but once you know how to do them, they're easy.

Charley, Biscuit, I swear by Jo Verso's books. Get yourself a copy of Picture it in Cross Stitch. It will start you off. Teaches you everything you need to know. Her books enable you to make your own designs very easily. I have never done one from a kit.

These last two I did are from patterns in her books as I loved them so much. The baby one from Picture it in Cross-stitch 20 year anniversary. I bought the book again as it was revised. The alphabet one was from Jo Verso's Cross-stitch year.

You can pick her books up really cheaply on Amazon Marketplace.

I can't really say a price as I have a huge collection of threads & fabric that I bought in bulk ages ago. I use DMC stranded cotton & they cost around 85p a Skein. I would only recommend DMC or Anchor.
