Took a few photos tonight and thought you might like to see them:

Filled pouches! They all do this, then hide their own little stashes.

Found you Mum!

Some of the creams:

Truffle hiding in the corner trying to get some sleep but it's no good - they always find her....

Hope you like them. They are 18 days old today.

They are soooooo lovely Gill :)

Is there quite a difference in size between the largest and smallest do you think? Are the two big Creams in the first piccie the two you've got your eye on?

The one in the corner is 'my' girl and already has a name - Buttercup. The other one I am watching is not in the photo but it is a male. The other one is a smaller cream and there was a smaller sable but that one has caught up now. They are growing very rapidly and are quite an even litter. They have turned out better than I ever dated hope for at this stage.

love them! Truffle is gorgeous. What sexes are the sables?

I am ashamed to say that I haven't sexed them properly yet. I only know 'my' girl is a girl because she lies on her back when she is feeding from Truffle. I have been handling them but was waiting until they were really old enough to sex properly. Will try and do it this week. :?

which one is mine?
A cream one? :P

Oh gosh Gill they are so so beautiful, and so hard to resist! :x I'm just loving those satin creams (but love all of them really of course)

Truffle is doing so very well - she learned mothering off a real expert in Berry didn't she? :D

Oh I love it - perfect name for her! She's like the shiny colour you get under your chin when you hold a buttercup there

Truffle is still as fat as butter and hasn't lost any fur underneath at all. She has gone a bit more chocolatey colour and has a bit of gingery fur by her tail but is otherwise very fit considering she has raised 8 pups and they must all be pratically weaned now.
I am hoping I will be able to show her a bit more later in the year.

Spuds Mum
03-30-2008, 02:48 PM
chocolatey? I think I would turn grey raising octuplets!

Bronte is still looking good too, she is still quite rounded and her fur is in great condition! :D

Aren't we lucky with our girls? And as our litters grow, Julie will be hopefully beginning her next generation. So exciting :D

They are just getting cuter and cuter as they age, Gill.
I particularly love the satin creams, but do have a soft spot for satins as it is. I can't wait to see these little ones carry on growing up and turning into beautful adults!

Almost the whole gang - one naughty sable went AWOL before I had a chance to press the shutter:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/gdb234/31308025.jpg

(Lady Fluff & Bunsey): Buttercup is in the corner and it is definitely a male at the bottom so the other two girls are among the middle three.

He's in this one though:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/gdb234/31308026.jpg

Have had a good look at them and I am fairly sure there are only 3 girls, all cream. The rest are boys.

just to do a complete U-turn... we're thinking of having a male instead! still a cream satin. the reason is that I think that Harvey is not able to mate. I looked at his Willy (rude!) and it's not really very good. It doesn't look like the Willy of a healthy young male. Hard to describe, but it's just not right. Anyway, it was Harvey i wanted her for, because Oscar is getting his own lady in May. So... i was thinking rather than have two litters overlapping, why not get a male and mate him to one of Phoebe + Oscar's daughters in January :)

unless of course that there's a problem with the Tristar babe, then we'd need a girl! i would've thought that out of two litters identical there would be one cream roan female for me :?

I'm hoping that the 4th cream down is a little girl - (s)he's got a gorgeous little face! It's funny how you picked Buttercup as a name - I nearly picked that for the hammy I nearly got from Moosley a few weeks ago, but that's not even in the runing for this time! It's odd how names come about (but I'm keeping quiet about name choices for now...)

Of course one is yours! You asked for one before they were even conceived! The sables are all boys and they all look very similar. I've decided to keep one myself too. :)

awww agate - that's great! I love it when forum people have pups from the litters we have seen here on HC. It means we get updates and news, and even piccies to see how they are getting on :D

I think you are all very lucky to be having pups from this beautiful litter (and of course Holly's two litters too).

I myself have an order in for a little Basia-baby in the future :D

Well I moved Truffle into another cage today because although she was still being very patient with the babies they were trying to suckle her all of the time and she has no milk any more.
I took these photos this evening (along with about 100 more!)

They are utterly irresistable Basia. Are the sables satins? Do you have homes for them all now. They are very lucky people who are getting these gorgeous and tame little furries.

Aw, Truffle says 'thank you - she gave the looks, Balou the brains'!
I am planning to keep 2 males and a female and I have homes for 4 others (all members of this forum) so there is just one sable boy now who needs a home.
I *think* 2 of the sables are satin - but I didn't realise that Truffle was a satin until she was reclassified at Alcester!

Thought that the people having my babies might like to see mum and dad.

This is Truffle at about 3 months old, I never get a good photo of her:

I will try and take a photo of just the 3 girls but may not get a chance until I split them into separate sex cages next weekend. There isn't much to choose between them really, they all look very similar. I want to keep one and I haven't definitely made my mind up which one, Lady Fluff also wants a girl so the one which is left will be yours. Is that ok with you? I will send you photos of her before hand so if you don't like her you can change your mind.

Aww Gill, they are lovely

Hope my litte furries look just like that
Thanks Julie. I spend a lot of time watching and playing with them. They are all getting very, very tame now....

Holly
04-07-2008, 03:10 AM
How you choose them at this stage really worries me - because they all look so alike! I have several people (mostly from here) wanting "show hamsters" so my plan was to separate them into the most likely to show well and least likely to show well then offer the MLTSW ones to people wanting show hams and the LLTSW to those wanting pets.

Is that ethical? Obviously if someone wanting a show hamster thinks they can spot potential in the LLTSW lot then that's fine!

Which is all well and good as long as it's possible to tell them apart! At least I'm not likely to have all BEC's this time - I guess it's easier, Gill, if you can narrow it down to colours!

I am currently looking at my own litter to but I am not judging them until they get looked at by a judge at the north Somerset show. So i am going to keep them all together in separate sex cages and choosing my two at north Somerset .

If I were you I would do them by colour if your mixing the litters for example do the creams of one litter with another colour from the other in same sex of course. As you don’t want to get a mix up beetween because they will carry different genes. And how can you judge at separation anyway

Me personally I don’t care about doing well as showing with Syrians at the moment. im going to try and master my normal Chinese first. Tough it doesn’t mean id turn down a show winner mind

I would like a pet who I can show. :x

its not uneithical but i would consider it Elitist

Don't worry Matty, I won't mix up the litters!

I remember when I separated the Carapaws at 4 weeks it wasn't obvious who would show well but it was obvious who
wouldn't - Kitty, bless her, always had a long, narrow face and that was obvious at 4 weeks.

Sorry Gill - I'm taking over, I don't mean to, I'm genuinely interested in how your babies look at this stage and how on earth you are meant to choose the best show prospects!

Oh wow, I'm just so excited now!

I should get to Hereford about half ten, we're going to have a pootle around, and I'll probably give you a ring early afternoon/late lunchtime.

I'm going to have on a blueish-green coat and jeans and shoulder length brown hair and will be with a dark haired woman in a black coat (and with an M&S bag with the carry case in!)

The 2nd girl is much nicer in the flesh, the photo doesn't do her justice. She is the lightest of the 3 and needs to put some weight on but they are all pretty much the same size. When you actually see all 3 together there is not much to choose between them. The boys are even more alike but when I pick them up there are 2 lighter ones with them too.
Looking forward to meeting you later today Lady Fluff!

They are absolutely beautiful, Gill! I love Buttercup but I think Girl 1 has an absolutely lovely face, well they all do.

Will any of them be coming with you tomorrow?

I have one left to find a home for, possibly 2 if I decide to just keep one boy, so I am going to take him/them to Gatcombe next week. I thought the extra week would stand them in good stead if they were going to spend the day on a sales table.
I will also be more likely to only keep one boy if I find a good SH girl or boy and I may see something at Monmouth and that will help me decide. :?

One girl has gone and 2 boys are going to their new homes today. I'm so sorry Bunsey - Fridays are my day off.
Never mind, you will be even more excited by next week and she will benefit from an extra week with her sister.
I will post you some photos of her later. I have told her that her name is Ruby. :P
