Yesterday I got to pick up my baby rabbits I have been waiting for from Lisab, it felt like it took forever to come, and the day was long and tiring, but when I was finally able to have them, it was all worth it.

They are mini lops, around 4 months old now, we have a black male and a black otter female...
here they are!
this is sable, she is my girl out of the pair, she is a little smaller then her brother, but is much calmer to hold, I think he tries to pinch her food when she isnt looking

they are settling in now, and had 2 feeds on their original mix, tomorrow they will start having a little of my food added, so they get used to it.
I have never had rabbits untill now, they are so gentle and lovely, if a bit awkward to hold when you are complete noobs like us! knowing how and acturally doing it is completely different kettle of fish XD
A really big thank you to lisab and her lovely husband who let me have two of their gorgeous baby bunnys!

Awww, they're really cute :)
I'm sure you'll get used to holding them too, I found it odd trying to hold the rabbits we got when I was younger but in the end it became something I didn't even think about.
I got confirmation that I was holding them fine in the end because Rollo soon decided that if you didn't hold her properly she was jumping out of your arms. She stayed in mine happily which confirmed I was holding her right :)
Now I can even catch and hold David if I need to, I just prefer to avoid it unless theres a reason because he doesn't know me well enough to trust me and I don't want to stress him.

Aww, they're really cute:) Otter is my favourite coat

I hold rabbits like I hold cats - put one hand [palm facing upwards] underneath their hind paws, supporting their weight, then wrap your other arm around their upper body, so their front legs rest on your forearm. Hold them against your chest though so they don't get scared of the height. :)

Thank you everyone!
They are really quite cuddley! I am picking them up with one hand under the bottom, holding the back legs still at the same time, and the other hand under the chest and front paws, then bring them to my chest so I can hold them still and keep them calm.
they had a little cuddle with my mum today aswell, they are soo soft!
they do have those feet! they do scratch a little when trying to get down, I dont mind it XD

Link is due in tomorrow for his operation, I was going to leave it a few more days, but he is starting to be naughty around dinner time, so I want to calm him down.

<3 I love my baby bunnys! <3

lol I had a scar on my wrist for years from one of Waldo's claws. He managed to follow the vein exactly with a scratch as I put him down one day. That looked surprisingly dodgy until it turned into a thin (and fortunately difficult to notice) scar, but I think its finally gone now.

I hope Link's op goes well :)

Hope little man is ok after his op

I have scars on my wrists and chest from bunny scratches. you get used to it after a few times lol

Kyril and lisa: his op went really well, I phoned up at 2:30 and could get him right away, he was awake and happy to be stroked, the vet recomended keeping him in and no veg, he has that anyway, and if sable is too lively to split them for the night, when I put him in she came right over and nussled him, she was hopping about a lot but not near him as though she knew he wasn't 100% but kept checking on him. He is eating fine, drinking a lot and looks as though it never happened today. Stiches are out tomorrow then hopefully he won't need to go back :)
Lisa: thank you!!! They are soo cuddly! I was a little nervous first so they where wriggly but sable is now happy to cuddle for ages, I'm letting link heal before picking him up but I'm stroking him. They are wonderfully tame!
I'm used to the scratches now, I'm getting the knack of how to put them down without them wriggling :)
Sterluv: they are really soft! And have really thick fur! I can't stop stroking them! :)

I know I havent updated you on the bunnys for a long time, so here we go :D

Sable is doing fantastic, she is putting some weight on now, as she felt a little skinny a few weeks ago, as her brother kept pinching all the food, but now she feels nice to the touch, her fur still isnt at thick as his, but is more silky and smooth, she has a wonderful way to her, she knows when you want her to sit still for photos, she loves to snuggle into the people she knows and trusts, she isnt as good with new people, but she loves her mum and dad :D

Link is also doing fab, he is nice and chunky but not overweight, his fur is so thick its like a pillow! he is very cuddly, but naughty, and is always trying to sneak off and run away with your dustpan and brush, he dose love a good ol snuggle but he dosnt like to be brushed, he gets wriggly where his sister just sits happy to be turned around, over, and having a good ol brush. they have been moulting in the heat so they did need it!

The room isnt too hot, or they would have cold bottles of water to lean on, instead they have a fan osculating the air above their pen, so not blowing right onto them, but keeping them cool.
they are enjoying their carrots, I might introduce them to spring greens in the week :D

I will get some pics of link in a bit :D enjoy!

hehe thank you Souffle! I have never had rabbits untill I got these two, but have played with my cousins when on holiday.
They are a lot of work, but they are lovely little ones at the same time, they are really good at cuddles so lots of pleasure !

she really is lisa! she was a little behind her brother I think, as he was much bigger when he came here, now she is a good size next to him, they both are soo lovely, he is more naughty if you give him the chance and dose NOT want to be brushed LOL! she will sit quite happily for it.

they wave to their family and send whiskery kisses x

I made some bunny cookies last night :D
using
1 banana
2 wheatabix
1 scoop of pellets
1 tablespoon of porridge oats
a handful of watercress/spinach/rocket
a sprinkle of readigrass
and a drissle of water to help it mix

before cooking

link having a nom
http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j333/vanilla-yazoo/100_3916.jpg

They must have liked it, it was all gone by morning!

I made it because looking at pet shop treats its made with egg or honey as a binding product, I used banana this time, but will try them on courgette and cucumber in their salads, and use them for making the cookies, it just needs something to bind the ingredients.

I now have a trey of cress growing too, so in 2 weeks they will have it, we are also going to make trays of grass for them to nibble on, lie down on and mess about with :D

Sable is near her time for her op, she is 5 months old, she started chasing link last night and humping him (poor guy!) and running around crazy! rattling the bars of her pen at night so she can run about like a loon in the room XD
the vet wont do the op till 6 months, im hoping she will settle a bit before then!

Oh they're so gorgeous! Miss having bunnies, used to make them treats like that and they always went down well. Unspayed females are nightmares, I'm sure she'll settle down a few weeks after her op :)

hehe thank you horsey holly! buns are so wonderfull, I have really fallen for them more then I thought I would! the cookies went down really well, was gone by the morning! she has to wait a month for her op, but she will be fine after that, she has calmed down a lot in the last few days!
