Just a quick hello, as I'm doing the rounds.

Starting from the beginning, then, my name's Gus! I live up in York, and work for Norwich Union - which is, by law, the only place to work in York

I came to pet-owning rather late in life, when I settled down with my partner Alex - who brought along her female Syrian, Hammie.

Hammie passed away last year, after 2 1/2 years of being spoilt - but not before I fallen in love with the little critters, and got Naff Dave, my feisty Roborovskii.

Hammie passed on the mantel to Bob, my partner's female golden Syrian - and my Winter White studs, Biggie and Tupac.

I've just adopted a rescue Syrian, Hobbs - a beautiful, fluffy chap - who's joining me shortly. He'll by my first Syrian, all of my own, and I'm looking forward to his arrival :D

Right, pic time!

Naff Dave: looking dashing... as in, about to dash off! You know Robos... :roll

The Winter White lads, Tupac:

Biggie:

Bob:

And soon-to-be-arriving-only-six-weeks-old-Hobbs!

Primarily, I'm here to share experience and knowledge with other owners - starting with some good cage tips, as Hobbs is my first Syrian... and I'm determined he love his time with me :)

Yeah, I've had a look - I really like the look of the Super Fun Hamster cage, but Hobbs is a growing chap, and I don't think it would remotely last.

Savic Cambridge seems a given; as does the Gabber. Would love the Hamster Heavn, but I've yet to see one in stock. Ferplast Liza?

Do we have a definitive answer on which might be 'best' or is it, like all things, horses for courses?

Glad everyone likes the chaps - the names occasionally raise eyebrows, but I love them to pieces :)

Hello and welcome!
You are absolutely right on your horses for courses (near York race course are you? :D ) but for the money I don't think you can go wrong with a Gabber Rex or Savic Cambridge, both excellent cages!
All your hamsters are lovely but a special mention for Bob (who is a beautiful golden banded) and Hobbs who looks like a satin cream to me! And also possibly long haired! Bet you can't wait to get him home with you!

I have been known to frequent the race course! :)

You'd like Bob - she has a stunning temperament, and was tame from the onset. I think she had more work to tame us, than vice versa!

Hobbs is a little long-haired - he's certainly from that stock, as he and his brother Calvin demonstrate:

He's a little fluffy is Hobbs; but totally gorgeous, am very happy to have been picked out to adopt him. Only a couple more weeks to go! :)

I guess cage choice will be down to him, but I was looking for something adventurous...

Wow, they are beautiful - has anyone yet got dibbs on the Red-Eyed Cream that's with him?

They are really beautiful, I am a sucker for a satin cream. As regards cages people either favour tank type cages or barred cages depending on whether they have had an obsessive bar-biter living with them, I think. The Cambridge is a good cage in my experience as is the Gabber Rex. The Hamster Heaven is in Pets@Home if you have one anywhere near you and it certainly has plenty of room and things for the hamster to do in it.

Yes - he's immensely cute in a bad-hair-day way! :)

He had some health issues, being a little underweight, but his long-hair has made him the darling of the bunch - he found a home instantly!

There were three left, without homes - two boys and one girl, Miss Kayla:

She's a little princess, but is still looking for a home - if anyone would like to make this little hamster's dreams come true, could they e-mail Sarah Argrave:

I don't have space, with Hobbs moving in, but I feel guilty leaving Miss Kayla behind :(

Sorry moderators - am not sure if I've broken any rules with the above post. It was well-intentioned, I have.

Those cream boys are a good looking pair indeed - and you are not too far from me so some hamster napping of Hobbs may be required (oh actually you are fairly safe - I have a LH cream satin boy already and he is gorgeous too)

I do have a soft spot for dark golden bandeds like Bob. In fact we also have one too - and by the sounds of it she has just the same friendly playful nature.

By the way - saw your post about Tupac and Biggie on the other forum - laughed so much at your comment about 'poor quality' I too think they are delightful just the way they are

Welcome to the forum and good to have you with us here on HC. Your hammies are all gorgeous. We also have a LH cream satin - Napoleon. Looking forward to hearing all about your little friends.

It's small world... I recognise a few people from this site, who I've seen elsewhere!

Souffle - is this the Napoleon that was posted on hamsterforum.co.uk? If so, he was amazingly cute! :)

I was feeling a little impish on the other forum... couldn't resist! I doubt Biggie and Tupac mind

Yes that is Naloleon from Custard Hamstery! We are not so far from you in Yorkshire and we may see you ot one of the Northen shows?

Yes, would be delighted to go to a show - though I may need some of the form explaining to me.

Do you have to show? Or could I just attend to see what showing would entail?

I'll confess I've no idea of the required standards!

Look on the Northern Hamster Club site. There is a list of shows there and you can look for one nearest you. For your first show I would suggest you enter pets then you can talk to everyone and get an idea of what goes on. You may then decide to try enetering main show next time and someone will be able to advise regarding classes etc!
