Anyone thought of making a small travel cage, for to the vet or PetStore? Like the crittertrail school bus, but out of a small bin?

I have a small sterilite bin 11"x6 5/8" x 5 3/8". Of course I would only use it for small trips, not more than an hour or two. I'm going to try and make my first bin cage tomorrow and I might make this too.

That sounds like a fab idea and much cheeper than a shop bought one :) I actually use the Combi 1 cage as a travel cage but for £25 its only worth it is you own one already :L
I'd be great to see some photos of the finished design. Do you plan to put any handles on it at all? :)

I too use a small cage for travel, but lots of people do make mini bin cages (such as breeders travelling to shows etc)

Much better than the bus,I got it free with an online pet shop order, was the worst concept in the world 'when your child is bored of its hamster they can wheel it around' >.<
hate to think of how many people use them like that..
But yes, bin cage would be fine ^.^

Does anyone have any pictures of them? I was trying to put the small superpet silent wheel in it but I need a little bigger bin. :(

If it's for travelling, people usually take the the wheel out anyway, so it doesnt fall and hurt the hamster, so it just really needs to fit a bed and some food really

I made some simple bin carriers for going to shows, I can't find a picture of the outside but heres inside:

It was just a cheap bin that I drilled holes into the roof and sides. you can mesh if you wanted extra ventelation, but for a carrier its not really necessary. Carriers also don't need to be particularly large as hamster usually sleep whilst travelling x

i have a small cage, that fits into: Super Pet Come Along Pet Carriers at PETCO (http://www.petco.com/product/11339/Super-Pet-Come-Along-Pet-Carriers.aspx?CoreCat=MM_SmallAnimalSupplies_Trave lOutdoors) so that is what i always use, they've always done fine in it to to go to the vets and such. i actually have two, mr nibbles uses his all the time to just be in..:)

This is my first try at it. I am using a drill with 1/4" drill bit. Its hard to get the extra plastic pieces off good. I got a little bigger travel tote with a handle on it. Going to work on it tomorrow. Going to get another hammie Friday. I want to bring him home in the travel cage.

Also how would I mount the SuperPet Mini Silent Spinner in the travel bin? Thanks,

Umm maybe can i make a suggestion? If that is the suoerpet 4.5" silent spinner can you consider buying a bigger size as it is unsuitable for any kind of hamster! Even Robos!

What about winter whites?

Winter whites, Campbells, russian hybrids and Chinese hamsters are all guaranteed to grow much too large for a 4.5" wheel. Roborovskis are the smallest breed of hamster and the vast majority of those need bigger than the 4.5" wheel too.
We never use smaller than 6.5" wheels with any of our dwarves.

I have one of these...
Aladino Carrier by Ferplast | Pets at Home (http://www.petsathome.com/shop/aladino-carrier-by-ferplast-15782)

I very rarely need to use it, infact, I have only used it for buying hamsters to bring them home in. It's fine for short term.
