I'm not officially back yet, and my mind is more cluttered than ever, but I have some exciting news to share...

Maia won a first place ribbon! Yesterday I went to a chinchilla show and took Maia along. She was one of the last classes of the day and won a first because she had great fur density, strength, clarity, and color, she was just lacking on size (Which I was aware of). She's the first chin I've ever bred and I'm so excited for my girl, she has a lovely personality and is the sweetest girl I could ask for.

Me and my baby:

Her in her show cage, she is number 74: :)

AND...You didn't think I went and come home empty handed did you??? No official name yet, but I'm thinking Oscar. My dad recommended it from a TV show that I'm too young to remember, I just think it suits him! He's very grumpy :)

If you have any other suggestions, I'm open. I'm very indecisive :)

I still probably won't post in the next week or so, but I'm very very excited for my girl and had to share.

Thats amazing, such an achievement!!! You should be very proud!

Little question..why are they allowed on mesh, thought it was well known to be bad for chinnies like rats? x

Aww, thanks guys! I'm pretty proud of my girl! I don't think I'm going to breed her though. So much can go wrong and it's in her genetic history too, the thought gets me very scared!

AI- Depends on who you talk to. Most people will agree that if they have a place to get off the mesh (Which he does) they are fine. To add, most of mine aren't on mesh. He's been on it most of his life and doesn't have issues. It CAN cause bumblefoot though, but I've never first hand heard of that being the prime cause of it, and if caught in time and treated appropriately in won't get infected. I'm actually have a chin with the beginnings of bumblefoot and he never set foot on mesh. I'm rambling. I should stop. :\ Anyway, no, it's not bad for chins IMO, you will have a fair few say it is though, but you need to know your chin, same with hams and cage size deal :)

Oh, you mean in the show cages? I have mesh in some of my cages and that's what I thought you were mentioning. The show cages need to be mesh so that the judges can see the bellies on the chins, they've been like that for over fifty years, I'm sure it's fine. :)
