Here was Desi the rescue syrian last night proving that he may be big but he can still mix it with the little 'uns

Desi appears to be a Long hair carrier as I can see little tufts on his scent glands, That will explain his thick luxurious coat Catya. If he was mated to a long haired lady you would get half short and half long haired babies :lol:

Desi is such a large, placid and in my and my OH's eyes - beautiful hamster, that I have wondered about him as a father to some babies.

His coat is absolutely gorgeous, very thick, thicker than Kretchmer who I think is a LH female. Desi's is plush, thats the best way I can describe it. I am still not sure whether he is large or fat! :D

Here is another pic - is he a normal golden - I keep looking at the standards but I never know. His belly fur is grey I think

He looks like a very lovely golden to me. Those are great photos and he is a really handsome hamster. I'm so glad he has found such a good home with you after his sad start in life.

I would say he is a normal Golden Catya. I think he is just a large hamster not particularly fat. He is definitly a LH carrier as he also has the ear tufts! :lol: Mated to Krethmer he would produce half LH and half SH but all the SH would carry LH and have the tufts! I do not know what the babies would be like in colour though as goldens can carry quite a few recesive genes so depending on what Kretchmer carried you may get anything. It is always a risk with unknown history hammies if you might get problems but sometimes it is worth it if you have two nice hamsters. Does Kretchmer ever stand for Desi and try and tempt him :oops:

Ooh I'm not sure, what without too much graphic detail is meant by "standing for him" :oops: :oops: :lol:

Just looked in my hamster book and it says a female should have a first litter before she is 8 months old and Kretchmer is 10 months old I think - it was a pipe dream really but they are both such pleasant natured hamsters that I bet the babies would have been sweet :D

Females stand when they are in season and ready to mate. They stand very still and have a glazed look in their eyes. When you run your hand along the back they raise their tail straight up like a flagpole. You can't move them till they 'detrance'. If you handle Desi then Kretchmer on her'night' she will likely stand. I would not mate her at 10months as you could have birth problems as she has never had a litter. I am sure the babie's would have had lovely temperaments too and been beauties so you can always imagine :wink:

No, wouldn't mate Kretchmer as she is too old now, think I have been lucky with some lovely hamsters plus the hard work we have put in to tame them :D
