After a battle with cushings, I finally had to say goodbye to my boy Dave on Friday. The Vet was lovely and he is now at peace.
Cage is empty and not the same :(

I am so very sorry new2hammies. Dave tried so hard and you tried for him. I'm sure he knew how much you cared and felt so very loved.
Play well at the bridge Dave x

Thank you Souffle for closing my other thread :)

Thank you both for your kind comments.

I think I will need to fill the space Dave has left, but will need to consider when and where from. Dave was a rescue hammie and he did us proud. :)

Really sorry to hear the news, hope you're doing okay :(. You'll know when the time is right for a new friend.

I'm so sorry about Dave, you gave him the best gift you could, helping him to the bridge when he was ready. There is no rush to find a new friend, it will probably just happen by chance, and meanwhile, if you feel up to it, stick around HC; it helped me when I lost my first hamster, and it was months before I was ready but you are still part of the HC "hamily"

Thanks guys.

I know we will get another, but not yet. For now Dave's cage is still sat there as he left it. Will have to clean it I suppose but another few days won't hurt.

Aw I'm so sorry, Dave will be healthy and happy at the bridge till it's time for you to meet again. I think he'll just take a little time out to pick a new little ham for you when the time is right though and guide you to find them knowing what a life filled with love they will have xx

Cushings is just vicious and unfair :( I'm sure your Dave gave it a good battle, but now he will be at peace and happy at the Bridge <3

Doh! My friend has who works for the local rescue has just told me that they have taken in 23 hamsters from a horder last Wednesday....all needing homes

Dave's only just gone to play freely without pain, but I hate the thought of not being able to help another rescue.... what to do? what to do? Would Dave want me to give another a home so soon. He was a rescue from the same place....

I think the answer is yes! Dave would want you to give another hammy a chance of happiness just as you did him. That it's the same rescue shelter is just perfect and a clear message!
