I figured I'd make a new thread since they aren't really "expected arrivals" anymore :P Plus I wanted to share a funny story that just happened, and I have pictures!!

I went to check on all the pups today and see how the parents were doing as usual. When I looked into the main part of the bin I found there to be no pups!! As I looked around the cage puzzled I heard the distinct squeak of very upset gerbil pups and looked down at my ten gallon to see their mother Sam peering up at me from beside a sand tunnel I had made for them. I took off the lid and behold! All eight pups had been moved and stuck into the sand pit lol. I could tell Sam had been trying to fill it with bedding since I found some Critter Care and Timothy Hay in the bottom, but not much! Poor things, it must have been a traumatic move because this is what she had to carry them through! And into this thing on the right of the tank!!

Here is a picture of the poor pups inside.

I have a feeling they are becoming too much to handle, I mean can you imagine eight pups running all over the place, by the time you gather one into the nest two more have run away lol. And I can tell you at 11 days these guys and girls do have energy!

Of course after I laughed at what I found I suddenly realized she may have dropped one and believe me that is quite a drop for even a grown gerbil! So I took them all out and checked them each one by one. Don't worry all were fine and moved as normally as an 11 day old pup can move. I also took the opportunity to get some wicked cute pics!

Don’t worry I put them all back in the main bin and blocked them from using the tubes :P

Oh my goodness she must really want to contain them badly - I hope you put it in the main enclosure you have restrained them in now?

Yup, I said at the end of my post that I but them all back in the main part of the cage and blocked them from using the tubes to the other tank :) No more traveling for them.

Oh sorry maybe didn't make myself very well understood - did you put the large cardboard tube into the main area they are contained in now?

OH!! Doy! *smaks head*

No iv left that out of the main area, I dont want the pups covered in sand, plus soon they will be getting to the stage of sampling food ect, and I think they should be able to get about. If they are in that thing they would never get out , its quite a jump:P

Well I am sure you know your little ones best :D Personally I would have thought that if Sam had made such an effort to get them in there it must be for a good reason in her head - can you not take the sand out of it just now? Maybe lie it on its side - she sounds like she has become quite protective of the wee ones, like a good mummy should when they start to get some independance

I could but im just leaving it how it is. I dont know why she even moved them, I hadnt put my hand in the cage all day before it happened. She has the pups back in her corner now and has left them there.

I also recently put a large garbage bag box in there for them to chew and she hasnt bothered to move the nest in there, so I think everyone is alright :)

Maybe she feels more secure just having the enclosure shut off from the rest of the usual habitat you have created for them? Or just given up trying to keep them all together in the nest

They are so cute. I love little fur balls, and big fur balls. Well actually I love all fur balls. They are adorable though.
