It's a new month so we have to choose the 'Hamster of the Month' for next month. The winning hamster will appear on the front page of the forum so when someone comes on to the forum they will see the picture. It will also be made into a Calendar pic for February and posted for anyone to print out.
In entering the competition you give permission for you picture to be used in these ways.
PLEASE TRY AND RESIZE PHOTOS AS SOME ARE HUGE AND ARE STRETCHING THE FORUM.

So it could be YOUR hamster who becomes famous.

1. This competition is for the February Hamster of the month.

2. You may enter 1 picture and this should be accompanied by a few lines telling us a little about you hamster and why it should be chosen.

3. The picture should be clear and as charming as possible

4. The picture must be of a hamster of any species and it must belong to you or your family. It may be with you now or have passed to the bridge.

5. Closing date for entries is 21st January

6. The voting will be posted and the new pic will be displayed in February. It will also be made in a printable calendar.

7. Please try and post a new photograph that you have not entered in a previous competition.

8. It may be themed if you wish and February has Valentines Day and winter!

Please do not post any comments on this thread and only post entries. PM me with any queries. If you cannot post pics then e mail me the pic and I will post it on your behalf.
I have noticed that some of the pictures posted are very large. These pictures do not do your entry justice as people will not scroll across the page to view the whole image, it stretches the forum and also it can pixelate and make your picture less clear. Please resize your pictures so that they just fit across the forum. Around 600pixels width is a good size. Also you should ensure your picture is very clear and in focus as a blurry picture will not attract votes. Thanks.

Good luck everyone and can't wait to see your pics  This month the vote will be public.

I'm gunna give it another shot but with Bubble this month :)
So this photo was taken about 2 months ago. She had just been put back in her cage after having come out of hibernation and given me quite a scare! When she woke up, I was warming her up in my hand and panicking a little when suddenly she bit me! The little monster. Anyywaaay, I have had Bubble the longest of my hammies so she is pretty special to me. I hope you'll vote for her ^^

Shiloh recently came a very close second in HOTM so she would like to try and go one better this time. She's a poser as you can see. Shy calls this "Pretty in Pink". Pink's kinda apt for Valentines Day isn't it?

I want to enter in gizmo even though hes playing at the bridge. This is one of my favourite photos i took of him last January the week after i got him. Brought him home on the 8th jan so due to this leading up the week to a year i would of had him i thought it would be nice to enter the little guy considering its for February but my birthday is then so it works out somewhat ha!

As it was our christmas/new year dinner with mum today, it was the one day i was looking forward to giving the boys some broccoli but sadly he couldnt join us but no worries, im sure he'll be happy (well maybe) that i gave his to my cousin hamster, Harry who i'm watching over the weekend :)

im putting in toby because i come across a few pix of him and i thought he would be suitable for this :) this will be his last post on here because in a few weeks he is going to a new home :( reason being, due to personal reasons i cannot look after him the same time with milly and he have chewed a hole through his cage where he can get out and everytime i cover the hole up he eats it and he has an obsession with the water bottle he is tame but NAUGHTY! which i will miss about him but hopefully someone will give him a better life and a decent cage, because im working long hours of work and my cat hasnt been up to scratch lately we have been back and forth to the vets with her and its a shame for toby to be left out, im absolutly devastated he is only 8 months old and ill be very sad to see him leave :( but milly is ok my partner is also helping me look after milly too and because she is 2 years old soon in February she isnt as 'hands on' as she used to be she eats, sleeps, drinks and chuffs :D and enjoys the odd treat now and then and goes for a little run in the ball. so for the last time in the forum please vote for toby :)

We don't normally enter this, but I'd like to enter a photo of two if thats allowed?

This is Muffin and Whizz, and I believe they should be Hamster(s) of the Month because February has valentines day which is all about love, and I think that despite being two females, these two found true love the day they were introduced.
They spent a few days so excited to be together they wouldn't move apart for long, and since then have settled down into a happy life together, sharing food, sharing a bed, playing together, and even exploring the cage and using the wheels is sometimes done together too (Muffin even learnt to use a wheel with Whizz sharing before she learnt to use one alone lol). So yeah, I believe they found true love, and are therefore the perfect pair for HotM when the month includes Valentines Day.

This is muffins, he and I are new to HC. He is a loveable little character who loves to sleep and run around and plan his escape. After only having him for a day or so he was happy enough to climb out of his cage and run around, after 10 minutes in a play pen he escaped and after 2 months in a ball he managed to open it buy chewing and pushing it around. He's loves to explore new things and knows how to get what he wants by just a little stare.

I do agree that people submitting entries should not vote for their own :) Because some will and some won't to be fair, and it skews the numbers somewhat. Nothing sour about that! Just logic.

Yeah it's completely understandable. As the rules don't prohibit voting for own entry, anything goes! Maybe if enough people feel slighted by it, the rules could be amended?

Perhaps its varying morals, in the two years ive been on here i havn't voted for my own, at least i know the older members don't seem to, i think it makes things fairer then and has more of a community feel..the aim of this is for a bit of fun, nothing serious, which i think is sometimes forgotton.

As it was such a close vote and some members over the sea did lose their votes, how does the community feel having the 2nd place winner up on valentines day? like at christmas where we had everyone :)
x

Roxie
02-01-2012, 11:24 AM
Maybe you should ask John, rather than the community...seeing as he won it...

Amethyst_ice
02-01-2012, 11:27 AM
Not really, this is a community where we all collaborate together and are NICE to each each other. I am not sure you were here but one month a different hamster that had passed away was put up after the community requested it even though it did not win.

This is not a game, this is just a bit of added fun for the community. It is a nice way for those who may not post much or simply lurk to still be involved.

:)

02-01-2012, 11:29 AM
I'm sorry, but its never been brought up before, that people could vote for their own? many other people do it

Emma&Bee
02-01-2012, 11:29 AM
I think that decision should be down to john. He won fair and square. What is the point of this poll if you can just change the rules as it goes along. Perhaps he really wants Gizmo to be up on that specific day.

Roxie
02-01-2012, 11:29 AM
Not quite sure why you felt the need to capitalise the word Nice...I hope that's not a dig because I've been friendly in this thread.

Not sure there's a point in having a poll to find a winner really if that's the way you feel. This meant a lot to John.

Lougarry
02-01-2012, 11:31 AM
I understand what you are saying, Amethyst_Ice, but I think the very reason Gizmo got so many votes is the heart shape in her fur which makes the pic especially appropriate for Valentine's Day itself :) Plus February marks the first anniversary of her passing.

Amethyst_ice
02-01-2012, 11:33 AM
This has happened and can i remind the community that mods do get PMs. We have had some members message their votes from countries other than the UK which would have altered the vote hence the option was being put forward.

Most of you havn't been here for years on end and the discussion of voting for your own has been brought up several times before as well as vote fixing hence why we made the vote public.

there is no need to put on your army boots, there are no sour grapes, there is no subtext going on here so please calm down and just being so defensive!

Gizmodo ^_^

I'm just going to add, Gizmo been on the front page on valentines day, meant so much to John, I think it would be unfair to change it now.

Also, as John said, it's been made into a sqaubble, I agree, it's been dampend.

If it is just going to be a one-day change for February 14th, so I don't see why it would be a big deal, personally. The results are actually a tie, since StellaNova did not vote for her own hamster. Had she done that, it would have been 14 votes vs. 14 votes. I think that's why the whole discussion started.

And please, I always try to be logical. I'm so sorry if my analysis offends anyone, sometimes I'm too direct for my own good--I certainly don't want to offend! Much <3 to Gizmo and Gizmodo, seriously!!!!

Why am I so sceptical about the "votes from other countries line"? Hmm, maybe I'm too old and too mistrustful.

Shy missed out by one vote a few polls back. Fair enough, I wouldn't have expected her to replace Buzz any time during that month as Buzz won fair and square.

Fact is, there will always be close votes, this is the first time I've ever heard of "votes from other countries being PMed", again maybe I'm too sceptical.

What is a shame though, is a 14 year old boy now being upset and feeling like he's having Gizmos moment taken away from him.

Gizmodo ^_^

clearly there is a group i have ruffled feathers on. the mod team receive pms about many different issues at varying times, our community is always changing. I do not see why Roxie why you always are trying to make up conspiracy theories and accusations of mods being unfair or bullying.

Gizmodo we have congratulated you and when Fluffy gets round to it (as you know he is not in the UK) he will update the front page, there has been occassions when it has been a week for pictures to change.

If this is upsetting you Gizmodo then i apologise because there is nothing to get upset about.

If discussions cannot be raised without people getting on the defensive then that is a bit sad.

kyrilliondaemon
02-01-2012, 11:45 AM
Well this has made me regret seeing others voting for their own pic and doing the same.
It'd have been John's Gizmo who would've had my vote if I'd done otherwise. Am sorry I didn't now, but the result is in and either way what has been voted shows John the winner.

Not trying to comment either way, just saying how I personally feel. I was really happy for him and yeah, can understand how he feels because I'm a little sad its turned less of a fun thing and more serious e.t.c which is a shame really.

Best of luck to all sorting it out though.

For the record - I'm not sure how this turned into what it did, can see both arguments e.t.c and just think its a shame the discussion had to get less pleasant than it could be.

Roxie
02-01-2012, 11:50 AM
Ok, don't bring up bullying AI, I haven't mentioned that nor suggested it so just don't. This whole thing was started by YOU so don't try and turn that around. All we mentioned was that it should be Johns choice as he was the winner. That is the fair thing.

I question whether we would be having this conversation if Biffy had won, would you be fighting to have Gizmo up on Valentines Day? Just a thought.

You want a conspiracy theory? I love a conspiracy theory me. A good one could be...is it just coincidence that every Mod voted for Biffy and now we have this big issue that you started because Biffy didn't win?

And it's no good saying there's nothing to get upset about, he's upset, end of.

Don't try and twist this on to other people, YOU started it, YOU took it to the unpleasant tone.

RachK
02-01-2012, 11:51 AM
This is ridiculous. I never ever get involved in arguments online my real life is stressful as it is.
This is a hamster forum to share our love of our furry friends. You can look at it anyway, if John hadn't voted for Gizmo it would be a tie. If Stella had voted for her lovely Biffy it would still be a tie
Maybe my vote shouldn't count then, seeing as I am his Mum & Gizmo was part of our hamster family in this house?? It's the first time I've have ever voted for one of his hams.
This was important to John. I am not one for coming on here & defending anything John does, as I am not one of those Mum's who thinks the Sun shines out of her kids backsides. But for once I am upset for him & really disappointed that something that is supposed to be fun, has once again turned into a silly battle. :(

I as Johns friend, don't like seeing him upset, I agree, I think there are some things about it that don't add up.
Just to add: Go Rach! :P wonderfully put!

Oh come on people!!! It's just a competition on the freaking internet!!! Anyone getting annoyed, upset, angry, blah, blah, blah needs a reality check - it's the internet! This isn't real life, this is words on a computer screen, don't take everything to heart, it's worse than being in a group of 12 year olds in school sometimes - "she did that, she said that" rubbish.

Appreciate the votes you get, don't have a hissy that other people voted for someone elses hamster, whatever their reason. Gizmo won, Gizmo's picture should be on the front page for the month of Feb (which Fluffy will do as soon as he can). I really don't see what the problem is - if someone missed the voting then thats their problem - they should have come on to the forum when the poll was open.

This is just petty, pointless and just causes more upset that it solves.

Yep, this was meant to be a friendly fun HC thing about hamsters.

On a personal and more selfish level, I'm actually saddened that there have been I think over three pages of posts about this on this thread and forum alone, and not one response by anyone to my ask for help from syrian owners with my sick hamster in the healthcare section. Time for me to step away from the computer for a little while I think.

It was actually suggested by another member, one who missed out their vote...

because i type things ois not always with the mod hat on, we are expected to convey things back to the community, this is not a personal opinion.

my personal opinion was the voting for your own, i am allowed to not be a mod 24/7.

i can see the heart now, i couldnt before, if other mods voted the way they did so be it, we are still allowed to be individual members on here.

This is ridiculous. I never ever get involved in arguments online my real life is stressful as it is.

Well said. The only reason i am stomping around in my army boots is because this is not fair on John.

Whoever this person was, had the chance to vote,
there was 8 days to vote?
who would leave voting until the last, last minute anyway? xD

indeed! you say 'it's the internet, just for fun' it still hurts, god forbid, I've had panic attacks because of what has happened on the internet.
People need to realise when feelings are hurt, tis all.

What is a shame though, is a 14 year old boy now being upset and feeling like he's having Gizmos moment taken away from him.

He should feel very proud he won fair and square and had no idea what votes he would recieve

Oh, so now you want to take it down that direction?

You all did the same with Biffy, don't make out like you didn't.

There arn't 14 mods roxie. Merely stating that the mods being accused of unfair play is very hypercrytical.

End of.

This has made me very curious about changing coats as I have only ever kept syrians x

Sarcastically accusing John of playing unfair isn't very nice now is it?

No, I know at least my vote, was because that picture was bloomin gorgeous.
Also, yush it is true, a lot of mods voted biffy, but I'm so sure it wasn't intended, and your right, it's a lovely way for members, and mods, who haven't posted much, in fact not for weeks, to vote. So lovely to see :x

It is a nice way for those who may not post much or simply lurk to still be involved.

Many people who vote don't post much.

Like me! *points* I don't post much anymore (Remember me?) but I had to come on here and vote for likkle Gizmo. She wore her heart on her....back? Anyways.

I think arguing is petty. But tbh. Fanning arguments to start by making snarky comments is worse.

Gizmo won. She did. Got more votes and the suggestion that another ham be on for another day is a little silly to be honest. You can't change rules as you go and this means a lot to Gizmodo and Giz. And everyone else who voted.

Had to voice my opinion. I'll disappear into obscurity again now, shall I?

Wouldn't it be better if votes were not seen like before, we've never had this happen when a hamster who won has been questioned? or just remove HOTM altogether and have some random hamster on there... "sigh"

I agree with Womblehands. Seems this competition is just another way for people to cause problems, or see problems, on the forum.

If you all care to remember there was a discussion about the polls a while back and the members were asked if they would like to have public or private polls. At this time we had a member make multiple accounts to allow themselves to vote for their own hamster to win.
The members voted equally for both. It was then decided that we should have alternate public and private polls and by enlarge this has happened whether you were aware of it or not.
I am extremely upset by this whole thread. The questioning of any members integrity and right to vote as they please is out of order. Many people do not like posting but still enjoy looking at the pictures.
I run this competition and it takes a lot of time.
Gizmo won the competition and Gizmo will be hamster of the month.
The mod team will now consider whether this competition will continue.

I had noticed they alternate, is nice to know why so thanks Souffle.

I hope this continues, but best of luck helping make the decision. I think it'll be understandable whatever the decision is.

I really hope it continues too - although I haven't entered any of mine as I don't think I could handle it if they didn't win!! :D :D :D

I enjoy the Hamster of the Month. I love seeing all the hammies. Wouldn't miss it. Go there every day to see who else is on. My Clara Jane didn't get any votes, but I knew her picture wasn't special and that's because she is diabetic, bites, and won't allow a good picture. But I wanted you all to see her anyway because she is special and we go to Hamster Central everyday.

Clara Jane looks beautiful in her picture, Sue - and I love her name too.

*sneaks on forum in term time*

I am sure I have seen posts in previous contests asking people not to vote for their own hamster. Not saying I'd get all upset if someone did / didn't / pressed-no-buttons / pressed-all-the-buttons-at-once-and-broke-it (most months I don't vote, so indecisive am I, I just enjoy watching the thread for the lovely pictures), just pointing out I thought it was discouraged, although not necessarily against the rules.

i would like this to continue, only one of mine has made it to the front page, and that was december when we all got a few days each.
Sometimes i do feel if you dont post alot, even if your photo is perfect star quality, you dont get the votes because you are not in a group?
i want to see one of mine uo there, i dont enter every month. just when its either for a hamster over the bridge or a perfect photo.
i voted giz as i looked through the pics, i liked both, but i thought the heart shape was something beyond controll, it wasnt a placed item, it just happened to be, and it was perfect, like nemisis had her star on her head. thats why i voted for her, gizmo was a gorgeous girl.

please let this continue.

Please now use this thread to offer congratulation to the winner Gizmodo's Gizmo :)
