...as in Chocolate Bean - our new robo, rescued by Leanne when his owner didn't want him anymore (Leanne has his sister, Titch).

We brought him home this morning and have left him in his old cage (a Rody) for now so he has something familliar. He's been asleep most of the day and has now woken up - and I have to say he doesn't seem too bothered by his journey/move and has been pottering about.

We can't believe how fast his little legs go in the wheel - they are just a blur!!!!!

He's soooo tiny - look at him in a rolly wheel:

He's gorgeous - thank you, Leanne for such a lovely addition to our family :)

Oh little Beany Baby! What a super sweetie! :x
I'm determined not to follow the trend and end up with another similar ham at mine though! (honest! :D ).
Will looks so delighted to have him there - and Bean looks like he has already settled down well.
Some more work required on your website methinks! Looked at it yesterday and it looks really good, but if you keep adding, you keep needing to update (or so Arti keeps reminding me too) :x

Thanks guys, he's a real sweetie - we've just had him out in the bath and it's incredible how fast he is when he wants to be - seeing his little legs going nineteen to the dozen trying to run up the vertical bath sides has to be seen to be believed

He's ultra fast until you actually catch him - then he's just quite fast as he explores your lap, sleeves etc! Here are a few more pics from tonight:

Boo!

I can't take any credit for that at all - we've only had him for one day and he was happy to sit on our hands right from the start. I know Leanne, who's had him for 10 days, has spent a lot of time handling him and I can only assume his other owner did the same.

The person handling him in the pictures is my 10 year old, I've held him too and he's happy to sit on me as well - here's a couple more from tonight:

Aw wow, he is really gorgeous! What a handsome little chap.....

I'd really like a Robo, but John thinks we have enough at the moment. *sigh*. Well, we'll see!

Animals seem to have a way of coming to us somehow, lol!

He really is a cutie! :D

Aw Holly he is soooo cute!
I do think robos are adorable and he is just gorgeous. Looks like he is going to be a spoilt little robo. :D

Thanks guys :)

I've got him in my room so I can watch him run and potter about - and so the smell of the bigger hammies doesn't make him nervous. He's so quiet compared to a Syrian - when I had Mochs in my room his bar chewing used to drive me insane (though, once he'd got a wodent wheel, wheel running was pretty quiet). Bean is just so tiny and silent - even on the rolly wheel and I usually find them annoyingly noisy!

He's very cute
am a bit biased towards robos though

aww, he's lovely! he's so lucky to go to such a good home. There are SO many robo rescues. i think that a)people buy them and can't tame them and give up and b)pet shops can't sex them so they sell mis-sexed pairs that breed.

Thanks guys - he's been out again tonight in his ball (he's mad in it!) and in the bath. Will can now hold him for a few minutes at a time without him running off (he's better than me  ). I've given him his silent spinner 'cos his rolly is beginning rattle.

That's really sad - the more I think about it, now that I know Bean, the more I think that petshops shouldn't sell robos at all - they should perhaps be a specialist pet. If we'd got him before our other hamsters I wonder how we'd manage him - as it is we know all the "tricks of the trade" now and, though he's fast, he's not a problem

Well Beanie-Boy continues to settle in well - he's more handleable every day - though still in the bath for safety, he's fast when he wants to be!!!

Here's a few more piccies:

Wow, I can't believe he's so tame!

I've made a lot of effort with Dave, but she seems almost naturally shy - and certainly wouldn't pose for photos for long!

I wonder if it's because Dave is so tiny... Bean looks so much larger; maybe that's the gender difference?

Bunsey
02-15-2008, 11:19 AM
my male robos have always been a lot larger than the females, which is odd because syrian females are larger! the males do tend to be more cheeky in my experience too, BUT the ones i've been able to hold the most have all been female, bar one.

i'm probably the only one who doesn't know, but why is she called Dave?

No, you are not the only one Amy,

But I'm guessing with Dave and Bob there is a story to both of them! :D

Holly
02-15-2008, 12:07 PM
I didn't realise that male robos are the larger - that would explain why Leanne was worried about how small Titch was when she got the pair! Beany Boy still seems teeny to us - I suppose we are used to Syrian monsters

Bean is amazingly tame - I think Leanne worked hard on him for the 10 or so days she had him and Will gets him out every night, he seems to know what to expect and doesn't run away from our hands in the cage anymore 8)

As for Dave - my friend's female cat also shares the name :P

Gust0o

It's not an exciting story, so sorry to hijack the thread to tell it!

Before Dave had a name she was the smallest, and most nervous little Robo you've ever seen! She was scared of the fresh food we put in her cage - mainly as it was all so much bigger than her!

My mate Dave came round one day - and his official title, amongst the lads, is Crap Dave. Because he's just plain crap! He's possibly the worst example of mankind to leave Sheffield, with his Italian-footballer hair and alice bands.

Dave bent down to look at 'no-name' in the cage, who was scampering about, and pretty much had his face touching the plastic;

"What does she do?"

"Nothing much - she's scared of her own food"

"That's pretty crap!"

Then 'no-name' jumped up to scrabble at the plastic, and Dave jumped a mile!

"Ha, you're crap Dave"

"Who, me or the hamster?"

And thus Crap Dave was born, in hamster-form... though, as is more ladylike, she's called Dave in public :)

Looking at Bean in his foodbowl, he's not far off the size of one Tupac - one of my Winter Whites!

One big Robo!
