Safe wood for platform?

I'm going to build a platform with ladder to go in Tre's zz1 because it's kinda boring in there for him atm

I have spare veneer Walnut and Beech wood from having my fitted bedroom, would it be ok? I know walnut is supposedly unsafe, but does it make a difference if its veneer?

I would`nt risk using anything veneered or varnished due to the risk. I`m also looking into how I could construct some kind of `L` shaped shelf for my gabber rex tank and thought about either using untreated pine, or a large fiddlestic play logs and perhaps balancing this on some pine blocks? Then having a smaller fiddlestic as a ramp. I hav`nt came up with anything much more ingenious at the moment! :mad:

Definately would`nt use old bits of wood from furniture though. I know some people have made cages from old cupboards and such, but the wood is mainly on the outer shell and not actually chewable.

I was having my doubts about it. Pine would be best, so long as its plasticoted then its safe.

You should use dowel as the legs, just drill it in into the pine and plasticote it. That what I'm think of doing. The fiddlestic is a good idea, saves the job of making a ladder :D

And I'm not the one for creating ingenious ideas, or even practical ideas :mad:

Dunno what plastikote to use, are they all safe?

I'm glad that $hAzZa has asked this question! :D I'm looking to make a safe platform for my gabber too - and then I want to plastkote it , but not sure whch ones are safe :S

As far as I`m aware, the Plastikote should say on the instructions that it`s paly safe or kid safe....or something like that. If in doubt consult the Plastikote website? :)

I`m not sure i would even bother with Plastikote and just use the pine without coating it, although I imagine if it`s peed on it might stink in no time! :mad: That`s probably the downside of wooden accessories, but I prefer wood to plastic as it`s more natural if chewed.
