They are 7 month old brothers who were born on New Year's Eve from a litter bred by a friend of ours - she had 14 GP's and they needed a home .....the rest is history!

They are very cute and seem to be getting used to us ok - we have an indoor cage for them (that's what they are used to)but they've been out all afternoon in the run. I've been researching GP care today - I can't believe how much hay and veggies they can pack away!!!!!

It's also different having pets who are awake and ready to play in the day......

Aww, they are adorable! I love their little faces!

Here is a great Guinea Pig forum that we sometimes use when we are babysitting friend's Guinea Pigs!

http://www.pimms-pages.co.uk/forums/

You will have to bring them to the show for other pets class!! If you have room that is

Yep that's a good forum too (never felt I fitted in there though) also http://www.cutiecavies.proboards61.com/index.cgi and http://www.ukrabbitsandcavies.info/inde ... tion=forum (http://www.ukrabbitsandcavies.info/index.php?action=forum) are good - as is guinea lynx and guineapigcages but they weren't very friendly to me :? recommend www.theguineapigforum.co.uk (http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk) most of all though :D)

Interested in souffle's commented about shows - I would love to take my piggies to a show to enter into pets...hmmm...you're giving me ideas  I need more info now :P

We did think about bringing them to a pet class at some point - not Emley (or rather the new venue) as it's too soon seeing as they are just getting settled - but maybe a later one.

Right am off to check out some piggy sites :)

You guys got my thinking, maybe I should do that :P

Depending on the size of the entry in Pets at hamster shows they are either all judged together or they may be split into hamsters and other small and furries. Same judge and 50p entrance on the day.

Well there wasn't a huge choice at the P@H near where we were staying - basically they just had the Nero 2 (too small), the Nero 3 (probably also too small), the Nero 4 (lovely - but they only had one with a broken base) or a Ferplast one which is simillar to the Nero 3 but slightly wider. As this was on special offer and it may just be temporary we got the Ferplast one - I suspect it's a bit small (100cm x 60cm) but it's the same size as they've been living in plus the whole front section is on a hinge making it easy to get them out whilst they are getting used to us.

Which brings me to a question - are GP's happiest/best indoors or outdoors? My friend keeps some of her's inside and some outside - she says the indoor ones probably get more attention as you are around them more. Ours have been living indooors so I'm gong with that for now - just wondered what other GP people do? They'll obviously get an outside run most days - I shan't be able to do that 2 days a week when I work a 13 hour shift or when it's raining (but they'll get a run in the house on rainy days).

In my opinion piggies can be happy both indoors or outdoors. Mine are out for the summer (we built the hutch our selves - it is 72" x 26" double decker, doesn't need to be that big though lol), then back in for the winter. In the winter they will be back in there C&C cage (which they were in earlier in year too) - have a look here www.guineapigcages.com (http://www.guineapigcages.com). What bedding are they on? Woodshavings generally aren't recommended for them. Are they used to eating veg? Mine had never had veg when they came to me  but now they eat it like greedy pigs :P

That seems like the ideal solution - I'm thinking of getting them a hutch/run combo for the summer then they can come back inside for the winter with occasional time out in the run on good weather days :)

Those C&C cages look fab - I'm thinking of building them a pen to sit their cage inside - then I can shut them in the cage safe from Harry (our cat) when we are out but prop open the cage door and they can have free run of the pen when we are in 8) ...if the pen works and is feasible I might keep them indoors all year and just put them out in the rabbit run on fine days.

They are on shavings for now as they've been on them since they were babies but I'd like an alternative. I can't stretch to carefresh in their cage as it's too big (I can just about manage it for the hamsters) so what would you suggest? I hate the smell of megazorb - what is Aubiose like?

They are very used to greens - a large mixed batch every day.

C&C cages are great :) You could even build a lid for it if you wanted them to be in all the time but either way sounds ideal.

Some people use aubiose and find it great, others say it gets stuck in boars anal sacks and say it looks quite sharp...so it personal preference really. Some people just bed them on newspaper and hay (and shredded newspaper sometimes) this needs to be changed every few days...Other people use a layer of newspapers, a layer of towels then a layer of fleece, the pee goes straight through the fleece so it doesn't stay wet, and you need to wash it once or twice a week. Another alternative is vetbed with newspaper underneath - but vetbed can be very expensive.

Glad they're used to veg, it's a pain to introduce! What do they have daily? :D They have hay at all times too, yep? ;)

have heard of the fleeceliner before and sounds like it would be a cool thing to try
my friends use newspaper and hay
