Hello

I'm from Saudi Arabia, and of course I'm new here in HC. Losing one of my favourite hamsters Sukar (the Arabic version of Sugar), is the reason why I want to know more about these loving creatures. This forum has provided me with what I should know about hamsters and being around people who knew exactly what it feels the pain and sorrow of losing a pet. :( So, Thank you from my heart.

Anyway, My passing friend name is (Sukar). I got her and the other one (Luna) about 7 months ago, when I was living bad time in my life. You can imagine the joy and happiness they brought to me since that time.:(

Well .. Below is a picture of Sukar. you can see she was very active and outgoing.

This is her favourite pose

Then, She mated with (Jorge), a black and white hamster. She gave birth to seven little babies. She was very protective and loving mother.

About a month ago, she got pregnant again. But this time she was tired and exhausted really. When she gave birth to 12 babies, I have noticed something is coming out of her lower body. I took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with Anal prolapse. Everytime, He tries to take it back with surgery, but she was cutting the sutures with her teeth. She lived about a week after that and passed away.

Here where she lies, in the garden of our house.

I'm really sad, I can't look at her 3 months hammies without thinking of her. She was in pain but she wasn't complaining at all. I feel like I was responsible somehow for her death. I really can't forget her.

I'm sorry about your sweet Sugar girl. She was beautiful and a good mommy at that. Now she has her deserved rest.

I'm so sorry about Sukar :( Losing hams is heart wrenching and it feels like they live for such a short time before it's their time to go :( Just remember that you were a great carer for Sukar and she's waiting for you at Rainbow Bridge...

I'm so sorry such sorrow was what brought you here, but you're amongst friends now, who are here for you and will help you through this sad time. It is difficult to not feel guilty for the death of a pet, but that sort of problem isn't one that you could have prevented.

Play free at the bridge little Sukar. :( x

(also, just so that you don't get in trouble from a Mod, I don't think we are allowed to post pictures of babies before their eyes are open - but if they are in that picture, ignore me. We just don't want to encourage people to go into cages and take pictures when the babies are so young.)

Thank you all for your response, it feels great to have people understand what I've been through.

Gillzy.. Thank you, I really didn't know about the baby photo rule. But the photo was taken through her glass cage. She was asleep, that is the only time when I could catch a glimpse of her babies.

Welcome to HC. So sorry for your loss, she looks a beautiful lady, a fabulous mother and a giant character. It is heartbreaking losing one of our little fluffy chums, I think we can all imagine your pain. Her legacy lives on in your young ones - you are lucky to have them :)

Hello, welcome to the forum. Sukar was very pretty. I'm so sorry for your pain, but I know you have wonderful memories of her that you cherish, and she had someone who loved and cared for her. Rest in peace, little Sukar.

RIP Sukar, I don't think anyone who hasn't owned Hams really understands what it's like to lose them. Sure everyones heard "It's just a hamster" or similar, but they give us a lot when their with us and Sukar has brought lots of new hams to the world in her time :)
