So Carmelo got a new toy yesterday.... :)

Ta da! Isn't it awesome! :) Carmelo loves it! I was so surprised when he could climb through it! (he's a chubby hammie! LOL) He slept on the blue part for a little bit, but then goes back to his igloo.

After fiddling around with toys and cage setup, here is the final setup:

What do you guys think?

Cell phone pictures when Carmelo was sitting on my lap watching a movie:

You can definately tell he's aging...does that look like fur loss to you?

Thanks everyone!

He looks a lot like Sakana, they could be twins!

Anyway, Sakana has been experiencing on and off fur loss for the last 6 months or so.

And it kind of looks like fur loss that I see on Sakana...but I'm not sure.

Yeah it's a little bit hard to tell with hammies. Here's a good pic of Carmelo for comparison. :)

The toy is great! We have two of them ~ Red has one and Paws has the other ~ they both love it! Red likes to stuff herself up the tube and store in the top part and Paws will lie in the top for ages pretending to be dead!

How old is Carmelo now? It is common for older hamsters to lose a bit of fur. I don't think there is anything to worry about as long as Carmelo is as happy and active as normal!

LOL hammies are so funny!

I'm really unsure how old he is because at the pet store, they didn't know. But I have had him for a little bit more than a year.

He looks healthy and happy so I don't think it is anything to worry about. Maybe his fur is just parted it a strange way. You could try brushing him with an old toothbrush.

Thanks for the suggestion! :)

Glad he likes his new toy. I think they are very good toys and most hammies seem to enjoy the tube bit and it is a nice size to fit in a cage too
I think his fur is just thinning a bit with age. This is common or he could be in mid moult which tends to make ours look a bit sort of patchy and tatty for a few weeks. Paws looks rather that way at the moment and I can see the new coat growing down over his shoulders now if you look in a certain light. He may be blooming in a few weeks.
If he gets any red, flakey or itchy skin he will need a vet visit to check it out so just keep a close eye on him
