I had to have my winter white male Scooby put to sleep this morning. He took ill over a week ago and recovered slightly, although was never really himself. He stopped eating his food a few days ago and I was syringe feeding soya milk and porridge and making sure he was comfortable. Sadly, he deteriorated and this morning was not well at all. He was dehydrated and just could`nt co-ordinate himself and was losing balance. :(

I rushed him in to see my vet and because his eyes had been shut for a few days, one was very milky when Mr McBride gently prized it open. He just did`nt have any strenght left and I made the decision to let him go. He was around 17 months old and will be sorely missed. He was seven months old when he came to me last year from a rescue. He was the best natured little hamster you could ever want.

rest in peace Scooby. You were a lovely wee lad. x I have my two roborovski now but no other hamsters. x

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your little Scooby. You helped him have a peacful and gentle path to the bridge. He was loved and treasured and I hope your memories will comfort you. RIP Scooby - much loved

Sad :-( but take comfort in the fantastic care and life he had with you.

Thankyou for your sentiments guys. I plan to bury him tomorrow beside Iris, a wee female hamster I had for only a few days last year as she was a very eldery old lady when she came here from Morag (Babyboos) and died within a week due to old age.

Scooby was the first hamster I owned for many years and I can truly say that he was the friendliest little hamster you would wish to meet. Even over the last few days when I was syringe feeding him, he just let me gently grasp him and wipe his little mouth after I tried to drip feed him some food. :(

I could`nt wait until Monday because he started to roll over and look as though he was quite uncomfortable and I did`nt know if he was suffering pain, so I had to make the final decision. Poor wee darling. x

Oh no, I'm so so sorry :(

17 months is a brilliant age and I'm sure you gave the little chap the best possible life while he was with you :)
