Quick question here...if you are entering your hamster into pets that means you still can't hold him until..er..when? judging is over? (not sure whether it's a good idea at all - but thought I'd ask)

and whilst I'm at it..if anyone who is going to the holmfirth show sees some shy, teenage girl stood in a corner with her daddy feel free to say hi :P

In the pets class (I assume it's the same at all shows - it was like this at Lymm) you can get your hamster out when you want to - we got Mocha out to show him round and see what colour the experts thought he was before the judging. Also during the actual judging at Lymm everyone was asked to get their own hamster out for the judge to see - so it's not anonymous like the main classes. We then got ours out for the racing as well.

HTH Jane :)

Okies thanks. Hope they're not in a hurry for me to get him out if he's just been sleeping

edit: Apparently it just depends on the show whether you or the judge gets them out during showing..I just asked PJ/Stormie (don't think she's here) on msn and she told me :)

Pj is a member just don't see her here much.

Totally depends on the judge - some like to do the handling completely themselves, others are happy to see you handling the hamster. During judging some want you to stand well back so anonymous others are happy to know which hamster belongs to who and to ask you questions about your hamster. I like to get the Pet Hamsters out myself, and talk to the owners, but Other Pets sometimes I will ask the owner depending on what it is I am faced with - some pretty weird things turn up at shows sometimes, including hedgehogs and they can be quite prickly!

Well, at the holmfirth show we held our hamsters and the judges asked questions :) Just thought I'd ask - thanks.
