View Full Version : Show Entry Question?

(I've posted this on another forum as well as (I think) my main show guru and her daughter may be away  ):

I've been planning to enter Sparrow and Turner, our Winter Whites, into the show-proper at Brockholes next weekend (our first entries into a main show). I have just been organising my entry and I've found a possible problem though.

We also have 3 Syrians and my son and I were planning on entering them in pets and racing - as we did at Lymm last month.

I realise that an individual is not allowed to enter a main class and pets at the same show - but if I enter the main show with the Winter Whites can my son enter two of our Syrians in the pet class and my nephew enter our third? Is that allowed? My son and I both have individual membership cards but we joined as a family - he's only nine and is much more interested in pets and the racing than the main show so, if it's allowed, it seems better for me to enter the main show (even though the WWs can't then be entered in the junior class as well as novice and young stock) while he does pets/racing.

Or, if someone in the family is entering the main show, is no one in the household allowed to enter pets?

Many thanks for any advice :)

Sounds alright to me Holly and as you don't need to be a member to enter Pets it doesn't matter if you have Family membership or not. I would certainly let your wee one enter the Syrians, with or without his nephew entering the third. I know many children of exhibitors who enter their Syrians in Pet Class and more than often win so unless there has been a sudden change which I have not heard of then I can't see how they would refuse you. If you have any remaining doubts then best to call the Show Secretary but do let us know what they say, as a member of Northern myself they will have a strong objection from me if they try to stop him entering. Afterall one day hopefully my wee one will be doing the exact same

I will telephone the show sec and find out for sure - the only thing worrying me is that Mocha isn't strictly Will's hamster, he's really mine - perhaps I'll have to just enter him in racing. The other two are more Will's than mine so there shouldn't be a problem there.

Would you class them as being the familys hamsters though...like they all belong to everyone and you just have your "favourites"? Charlies gunna have tough competition :P

Yes, that is fine. As long as it is not the same person entering in both it is allowed, so you can enter the Dwarfs in the main show and Will and his cousin can enter the Syrians in the pets.

Thanks PH - I've been discussing this in the other forum as well and I've decided to enter Mocha in the main show AOC class (eek!)...I know he won't win anything but he's (IMO after a bit of study - only a bit, mind!) not a bad size and he has a nice blunt face (I think!)......and I've got a show pen for him. I'll use it as a learning experience - I don't think Mocha will mind if he doesn't do well and I'll have a better idea of what the judges look for afterwards.

I just don't feel comfortable entering in pets under Will's name as he's mine (even though Will got in quick at Lymm while I was talking and booked all three in under his name :? )

Then Will can enter Custard, Josh can enter Treacle and Patrick can enter Treacle - all in pets and racing :)

Well Mocha and the WWs are all entered in the main show (eek) and I've managed to hire a dwarf pen. I asked Sue about Will entering pets just to be doubly sure and she said that was fine :)

I've been thinking all along it was Sunday until my friend told me yesterday that the 21st is actually Saturday - that's lucky

Oh dear...mix-up with the date at this end...I've changed Aidan's activities from Sunday to Saturday, thinking that the show was on Sunday...it's probably too late to change them back now so we may have to give this one a miss...I'll see what I can do later today to change stuff round...Aidan will be so disappointed if we can't make it

Update to follow whan I've made a few calls...

Glad to see you've taken the plunge into showing Holly...you're very brave...I've not got much in the way of competitiveness in me I'm afraid  :D

Oh no! You've answered my question in the other thread :( ....shame Jill, hope you can make it.

I'm not terribly competitive either ( though a bit more so than when I didn't spend most of my life around small boys - who are!). I know ours won't win anything and that's fine - I'm interested to see where they are marked down so I can learn a bit more about "the ideal" hamster for showing.

I've managed to swap Aidan's activities to Sunday so we'll be there tomorrow...can't wait now...I've got Ryan for the weekend so he'll be with us...will be undertaking Hammy and children preparations this evening and aiming for an early night...yeah right...these two always seem to be building tents, roaming around with torches and having midnight feasts that last til the early hours of the morning...boys will be boys though eh? So I'll have my work cut out tonight trying to rein them in

Not sure about arrival time etc but will PM our lovely mother-and-daughter team about that and let you know later.

Looking forward to it
