I'm planning to connect Holly's Savic Cambridge with the old cage he came in (a very small Ferplast Olimpia). The smaller cage has already has gaps the right size for the ferplast tubes and the square fitments to hold them, but I need to cut spaces in the Cambridge for the plastic squares to fit in. How can I do that - will wire cutters be strong enough, or do I need a hacksaw, or what?

Hey, just noticed this thread.
Wire cutters may be up to the job if they are a good sturdy pair and you have a good strong grip. I know I can cut fairly well with mine but I used to metalwork so meh. ;)
They will leave a sharp ragged edge though, so you will need to smooth it out with a file or something.
A dremmel (or similar) with a metal cutting blade would be your best bet if you have one.

I did the top of my Duna with wire cutters. Was a bit difficult but manageable.
