Now I know hamsters store food and you can be fooled into thinking they need more because their bowl is empty but I hadn't realised just how much food Mouse was storing! She has a couple of tunnels downstairs in her cage as well as a log bridge and although in the first couple of weeks she was using them as tunnels she soon decided they would serve a better purpose as food storage facilities so she puts food in and blocks off each end of the tunnels and the front of the log bridge with shavings. She never seems to store fresh food in them, she stores that in a box on her shelf, and doesn't poop in them, and because I don't like disturbing her set-up too much, for a couple of weeks I didn't empty out her big tunnel, when I did this is how much food I found!!

I felt really bad throwing away her stash but knew I had to remove a good portion otherwise she would just have far too much and not need feeding for a month!! I'm now keeping an eye on her food storage and trying not to feed her too much but she loves to forage so I sprinkle food when I have her out in the bath or around her cage, just a little but it soon adds up!

I was also amazed at her little bed when I lifted her house up, a complete replica of the house shape, right down to the entrance hole!

And just because she is so cute, some Mouse photos!

Mouse is such a sweetie, she is very inquisitive and when I call she comes out to see what I might have for her! She doesn't mind being picked up, though you have to be quick or she's off, or having a cuddle but doesn't sit still for long. She loves hiding in my dressing gown when we have her on the bed.....or on me!.... and I set the bath up for her with lots of hidey holes and make little tunnels and caves with the towel, it's quite a challenge finding her when it's bed time!! She also loves to dig in the sand end of her cage and I just wish I could make it a bigger and deeper area for her. And she makes some fabulous tunnels in the shavings, though I'm going to change to Megazorb I think. I love my Mouse!! :D

Mouse is just adorable :)
Maisie used to store all her food in the top section of her cyber house, no matter how much or little I gave her she would store it all, if I gave her less she would eat less of it, they can be stange little so n so :)

awww my Chin loves hiding in my dressing gown too lol. Such inquisitive little cuties, and mouse is a very sweet little ham. Mines very fond of his sand bath too .... i normally lay a old clean jam jar on its side and put sand in there ... he loves to roll around and dig in it.

Nooooo!! No hamnapping allowed!! But you'd have to get past the 4 dogs first ........ which actually is no challange at all as they love people!! LOL

She really does remind me of a mouse so suits her name very well, though I had chosen it when I'd only seen a photo of her on the RSPCA website.

I had a shock with my first hamster, years ago. She started coming out of the top of her house instead of the bottom. When I investigated, her stash came half way up the door, and there wasn't room to get out!

It appears Maggie has been sneaking onto hc and getting tips. She has emptied the entire contents of her food bowl and stored it in her nest. :D
