Is there anything available on-line that goes into detail with regard to Syrian hamster standards - something that also has pictures and goes into detail about the genetics that make up each colour?

I know about this one:

http://www.britishhamsterassociation.or ... ards04.php (http://www.britishhamsterassociation.org.uk/standards04.php)

...which is absolutely brilliant but, being unfamilliar with a lot of the colours, I could do with pictures as well.

I'd also like to look at the genetics that make up some Non- Standard colours as well.

There is some info on the NHC site
http://www.hamsters-uk.org/modules.php? ... =97&page=1 (http://www.hamsters-uk.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=97&page=1)

Not a lot really though. The Midland site has some good bits too. There is not really a lot around. I will copy that book I showed you if you want but it will be in B&W but it does have good genetics info though some bits are a bit out of date.
The BHA and NHC standards have slight differences.

Thank you for the link, Souffle - I'll have a proper look after Will's gone to bed :)

Would you really do that for me? It would be a lot of work for you so I'd happy to pay you for it - certainly for the paper and your time - it looked like a fantastic and useful book, from what I saw of it 8) ...that is a really kind offer.

River Road Hamstery based in USA are also worth looking at if you want to know more about genetics

sadly not a picture for every colour again. And PurpleKritters http://purplekatkritters.tripod.com/d/d101.html has some of the more unusual colours (non-standards). The websites you have already checked out are really the best for Standards sadly. Lots of people have plans to build a website with all the standards and non-standards genetics information and pictures but it never seems to really get there.

That looks fantastic, Babyboos 8)

I've seen River Road before but not those pages - somehow I missed them! I shall use the whole thing as a tutorial (as it suggests) over the weekend. I think it will be very helpful, thanks :)

I'm actually having a fair bit of trouble locating a show (possibly breeding) standard female (my heart is set on BEC as I believe this to be a good starting point)....I might as well use my time wisely :?
