Savic Cambridge Review

So i got the savic cambridge when Nibbles the syrian was about 7 months old and he needed a better cage than what he had (savic peggy metro). I ordered this cage off www.zooplus.co.uk for around £35.99 (i had £10 on paypal so £25.99) which is a good deal since all the other pet store's charge around £40-£50 for it, unless you spot one on ebay. This cage measures around 62cm in length, 42cm in height and 36cm in width
I thought this is the right around size for a syrian hamster. By the way i dont reccomend this cage for dwarf hamsters as there are too many gaps where they could squeeze threw and if you want 2 there is also territorial problems anyway...
This cage can come in 3 different colours... red, light blue or navy blue
And the 2 shelves are red and yellow

These doors are big enough to get your hand threw and are secure (but i put my other spare savic clips on for extra security)

The bar spacing is good for all hamsters i think apart from roborovski's as they would be able to squeeze threw..

These are the savic clips that attach the bars to the base which havent even been chewed YET!

There is a big space in the middle of the top shelf and middle shelf which can be a problem if your hamster likes to jump (which Nibbles does) but this can be ressolved by putting a hammock or hanging toy there etc)

Also this is a savic fault on mine (dont know if its with everyone's)
on the top shelf its isnt in line with the bars if you get what i mean like in this picture the shelf is wonky

Another fault with this cage is at the top the bars kind of seperate and a dwarf hamster could easily escape from this.

And lastly the other fault is the actual tray/base isnt level so when Nibbles runs on the bottom the whole cage moves creating a horrible noise so ive had to make it level with bluetack

Good ventilation
Cheapish
Easy to clean
Good access to your hamster (2 doors)
can fit an 11" wheel if you take 1 shelf off
bars are good quality
Nice looking
Lots of colour variety


Con's

Dwarfs cant live in this cage
Accessories that come with the cage are useless
Can be pricey
Shelves are a pain to move and clean
easily breakable shelves
can be dangerous such as the gap in the middle
ladders can be flimsy

I had the same gap in the bars and wobbly base, it looks like the base has warped :???:

Im personally not impressed with it and moved my syrian Pudding to a bigger cage after just 2 months. It is ALOT better than most cages though :)
Pudding doesnt like it much either and chews on her bars ALOT, shes currently on her holidays in the Cambridge and Ive been told she is going to town on the bars :(

Its pretty though, and alot better than some cages so I have to give it some thumbs up.

yeh i agree, Nibbles chews on the bars alot but i dont think i will be getting him a bigger cage for the moment even though it would be nice for him to have more space..

Its alot of money to spend just to move your hammy again isnt it, luckily I had an old rabbit cage and some wire mesh laying around so Pudding could move

The Cambridge is too small IMO, its smaller than even the RSPCA recommended cage size.

Yes its not the best size you can get but its better than keeping him in his old cage which is like half the size. But i think its alright :)

Hey, i have 2 Cambridge cgaes for 2 of my 3 syrians, and i have found them to be great. They're a good size, although not as big as the alaska, its not exactly cramped.

The hight gives them lots of climbing room, and different levels, although i only left one level in so they had more room for toys and climbing. The floor space could be bigger, but it suits my hamsters perfectly. ive never seen them so happy.

Its a good price, being £40, although i got mine on sale for £30
its a very good buy, i strongly reccomend it for anysyrian owner!

I have a cambridge and while I would happily put a baby syrian in one, or a dwarf hamster, wouldn't use it for an adult now that I have an alaska and a mamble.The shelves drive me mad when cleaning and it really isn't big enough (I would consider it for an elderly hamster).You can't easily fit a 12 inch wheel in and for me the floor space is just too small.Yes some hammies are happy in them but I don't think I could honestly say it's a very good cage when you can get an alaska for the same price.I keep 2 mice in mine now as they are happy climbing the bars.It is however better than the smaller cages some shops seem to think are suitable :)

I like the cambridge but I do agree I wouldnt keep a fullly grown syrian in one but for a starter cage its brill. :)

yes, i agree it isnt quite big enough, but mine seem happy, and if they werent, you all know i wouldnt leave them there

Yeah it is a great starter cage and my Syrian loved it when he was 8 weeks old but now he is about twice the size and looks a bit agitated by the lessened amount of space due to me having to get him a bigger wheel and a bigger house. I'm planning on upgrading him to a Savic Hamster Heaven as soon as I save up enough to get him one.
