Hello everyone, this is Rolo. I've been looking forward to showing him off for a long time now. I got Rolo back in August (after our hamster cookie passed away, bless his soul) but he's been so camera shy and fast that I've not been able to get decent pictures until now. Got him from Pets at Home (I know, but he was looking at me with those big boggly winter white eyes of his)! Their hamsters look a little questionable to me usually but this day it seemed there were a good bunch there... I think he might be pure bred or very mostly winter white from looking at him but who knows! We got some dried meal worms for him and ghost (our cute chubby hybrid hamster) the other day and they're loving them so far. I find them a bit disgusting to be honest lol, hated picking them up but I've managed to get decent pictures of him mostly because of them! You can tell he's really enjoying them, look at how boggly his eyes are going :D Is it just me or is he rather skinny? I've been giving him plenty of food I swear lol, he's just very active. When he was younger it used to look like he was gliding up his log toy; he's such an agile little man

Anyways, hope you enjoy!!

P.S

Has anyone got any good tips on cutting hamsters nails?? (or do you all just leave them be?) Noticed Rolo's are looking a bit long in one of the pics. I've tried making them walk across a terracotta tile by putting it in a place they would have to walk over in their cages but it doesnt seem to be working lately.. maybe it's blunt?! lol. Hope you're all having a good friday. X

Aww!! He is a little cutie!!! Love that 3rd pic - ooooh I just want to give him a cuddle!!! :D

Cutting nails is tricky, I use a pair of baby scissors and usually only manage to do a couple at a time. I also have one of those Styptic (sp?) pens on standby too. A vets will do it, but thwey will charge you for it. They dont look too bad to me, they are not curling under just yet. Have you given him a sandbath as this is also good for keeping nails trim with all the digging about they do in them!

Hehe. Yep Rolo loves his sandbaths, he goes in for them head first :D

They're not too bad yet but my other hamster's (Ghost) are worse.. he's not going to appreciate getting them cut but they're starting to curl. Ah styptic pens, never heard of them before but they sound handy. I read somewhere that holding them upto the light helps as you can see the blood vessels in the nails.. but I'm pretty certain it's holding ghost still that will be the problem more than anything lol. Will try the baby scissors on Ghost I think and if not the vet can try, he is super wriggly at the vets though lol.

Sorry no advice re clipping nails. Its bad enough doing the rabbits and the piggies, I haven't had to do any of my hamsters yet eek!

awwww bless, hes a real stunner :D
Winterwhite/hybrids are prone to long nails, I cut Treos myself with finger nail clippers as he is calm enough.
It might help if you have someone to hold him still so you can cut the nails. Its also best to only do a couple at a time to avoid stresisng him out :)

Thanks fluffymunchkins, yeah I'll only do a few at a time. I think the strategy so far is to maybe distract them with food and slowly getting the nail scissors in lol. :)

Thanks Iluvhamsters. Those mealworms certainly seem to bring out the best in him for the camera too :)

he's so cute!!!! We really like looking at his pics, hope you have more to share.. about him being skinny, i think that is fine as long as his agile and has a good appetite... maybe he just have a fast metabolism... Im not sure about the nails though... maybe when you find some answers you could share it with us... thanks...

hehe aww thanks RachK. Anorak, I did think Noodles looked quite a lot like Rolo! They both do the surprised face too, as well as the boggley eyes :)

Thanks spider 3433, I'll try and get a decent video of him at some point now that the sun has come out!

Gizmodo^^ I've got the hamnap guards outside the cage so no chance! :P

SO cute! I would suggest having someone help you trim the nails. Only trim them if they start to curve. Have someone hold the hamster and have someone else trim the nails. If you can't get them all in one go, it's okay. Have you also thought about putting some kind of stone in the cage to help keep them trimmed?

nawwrrr what cutie pie :) he is adorable :P If my hammies nails get too long I put a bi of bird paper in their cage it seems to do the trick :) xxx
