Am I allowed to post a memorial for him here, as he's a Gerbil?

I got Buddy and his brother (Murphy) from P@H on the 8th of January 2009. Buddy was always the shy one and would only come near me if his brother was nearby. I tried so hard to tame him properly, he was always wary but tolerated handling and cuddles in the end.

He and Murphy were inseperable, always playing, tunneling, eating and sleeping together. Never once did they argue.

Then I woke this morning to find them 'sleeping' on the Megazorb which I found odd so I went over to find Murphy laying next Buddy who had sadly passed at the age of 2 years 4 months. He was fine last night so I think it was natural causes. It's heartbreaking to see Murphy moping about and frantically searching for his brother. :(

You must be heartbroken to have lost lovely Buddy and to have to watch his brother missing him like this, but I'm sure with your love and care Murphy will learn to cope with life on his own.

He's getting slightly better. It's just worrying as gerbils are well known to die of a 'broken heart' once their cage mate has passed. He seems to be coping okay though.

Some of them can and others can live for months after they get over the initial loss. Hopefully Murphy will be one of the ones that copes well :)

It's exactly one month today since Buddy's passing and I still think about him every day. Murphy has his sad days where he mopes about but other than that he's still going strong. This is the pot we put him in and the first flower has come through!
